Hundreds, possibly more than 1,000 people were killed when soldiers and tanks chased protesters and onlookers in the streets around the square. One secret British diplomatic cable put the possible number of dead at up to 10,000. […]

“That incident was a political turbulence and the central government took measures to stop the turbulence, which is a correct policy,” Wei told a regional security forum in Singapore. […]

In his speech, Wei also said his country would not renounce the use of force over the reunification of Taiwan with the Chinese mainland. …

“He said that because of the government’s action at that time “China has enjoyed stability and development.””

The big lie.

Still not acknowledging the mass murdering.

Just a political turbulence.

At least they are acknowledging that it happened. Took long enough.

Was on my way to Beijing for language studies and some minor embassy TAD when this happened. Naval attache stopped me (I had just been commissioned) in Hong Kong and I got 30 days there with 3 months advance pay in my back pocket.

Didn’t learn as much because I had to do it ad hoc. But it was very interesting to be there. I obseved a lot of the local protests. Was able to buy books with pictures smuggled out of the mainland. Still have some of the t-shirts stashed away that I got really cheap in the night markets with the student leaders pictures on them.

They always acknowledged there was what they call a counter-revolutionary movement.

Using the term 'Correct', which seems like an odd choice of words, probably comes from the Eastern notion of 'True, Right, and Correct.'

Where True is 'what is,' Right is 'moral principle,' and Correct is kind of like 'the most beneficial action having reflected on the other two.

In essence I think they are saying "in the long scheme of things, it probably looks bad, but under the conditions, and taking into account the long term future, it was justified and even good.'

Or ... the end justifies the means. Of course, the Chinese ends are already evil to begin with, so even if the logic were sound, the conclusion is still delusion, but they of course think the end is sound.

Hence, 'correct' is ... what they WOULD say.

"Correct"l. ... it's internally logically consistent ... but internal to what? ... only a twisted heart that is a house of mirrors could see that as a straight line.

Sin in all its full rainbow of expression!!!! Always delusion and ignorance are the light and the prism of that dark spectrum ... and so the world spins ... and man suffers. It has been always so!

:-)

One year later, President Clinton signed into law permanent normal trade relations with China.

China saw they could literally get away with murder and Western powers won’t stand up to them. This is why they are so arrogant today.
