A Delaware woman who says she was severely beaten at a resort is telling her story in public for the first time. Tammy Lawrence-Daley says in January, she was attacked by a stranger inside the resort where she was staying in the Dominican Republic.
"It's very difficult, very difficult reliving," Lawrence-Daley said. "I could hear footfalls behind me. And before I could turn around, he plowed into the back of me."
Tammy Lawrence-Daley was on vacation with her husband at the Majestic Elegance Resort in the Dominican Republic when she says she went downstairs alone one night in search of a snack. Then the man attacked her.
The man, Lawrence-Daley says, was wearing a resort uniform. She tried to fight him off, but after he strangled her she lost consciousness.
"When I came to, it was to him beating me," Lawrence-Daley said. "About the head. Kicking me and beating me."
It was hours before people at the resort found her in an underground crawl space. She was brought to the hospital with severe facial injuries. After months of physical and emotional recovery she says she is finally sharing her story as a warning to others.

I would not go to Jamaica, Puerto Rico, parts of St Croix, parts of St. Thomas, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Trinidad, Dominica and some places in Honolulu.
I would go back to the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands.
The fact is that many people go to these places because they are cheap. The BVIs, Caymans, St. Barts are more expensive. They are all very safe. The standard of living in Grand Cayman is higher than the US.
You always get what you pay for. I feel bad for this woman. However, she probably would not go out by herself at night in Florida, California or almost any other US state if she was on vacation. There are evil people everywhere even when you are on vacation.
Silly tourist. Would she have wandered around the streets at night back home? Probably not but tourists tend to take risks when abroad.
Tryst gone bad?
Angry jealous husband?
Women are not always to be believed just by virtue of having a vagina.
I had looked at going to this resort for our 35th anniversary this past January. My nephew and his wife went there two years ago for honeymoon. We ended up in Jamaica, been there before and loved the people and the resorts there.
Anyways, I feel bad this happened to this woman, but you never ever go out at night by yourself, especially if a woman. We always stay at gated all-inclusives and I would never go out at night even there.
If I had to guess, I’d say she arranged a tryst, gave the dude some typical American-female attitude, and he decided it would be more satisfying to beat the hell out of her than to have sex with her.
Been to Jamaica twice, most recently in January. We stay at all inclusives and gated resorts. The people that work there have always treated us well. In fact, our one server by the pool told us he was a Christian and he was an orphan, many orphans in Jamaica. He shared his life story and how he overcame many obstacles. Lot of Christians in Jamaica. He was very polite and got to know us as well. Our driver to Margaritaville also was a Christian and explained about the poverty and people in Jamaica and the orphans there. The one resort we stayed at was owned by two Christian brothers who pay their staff well (no tipping allowed) and they support the many orphanages in Jamaica.
I visited those parts (not tourist locations). I met a man who was a decent normal guy and proud of his fairly modest accomplishments. About a month after I left he was shot dead randomly. Civilization is quite fragile when you think about it.
Back in the '90s our cruise ship stopped near some place known for its waterfalls. There was a tour offered, but a couple of fellow cruisers said to forget it - and just about everything else in Jamaica.
We decided instead to go to a liquor store at the end of the pier and were greeted with hostile stares from the staff. We smiled, thought "Up Yours", got some better-than-on-the-ship prices and headed back. Didn't go anywhere else and found we made the right decision.
Some people who took the tour said the guides tried to swipe your wristwatch by grabbing your wrist and "helping" you up the trails. Another guy said some people tried to get between his family and his 13-year-old daughter. More horror stories followed and I had to wonder why the ship even stopped there. They did a few years later.
Visit 3rd World resorts ( last resorts?), win 3rd World prizes. Does anyone really think such places care for anything other than your US dollars? Ha!
One word: Bermuda.
My favorite place on earth.
I love it there.
We have cruised there four times. I can’t afford to just fly and take a family of 4 it’s very expensive. Even then we did not venture out late at night into Bermuda. We did all our fun during the day and early evening.
We cruised there once and flew once. The airport is tiny. The beaches are beautiful, the food is excellent and the people are very nice.
Well he looked down at my silver chain
He said I’ll give you one dollar
I said You’ve got to be jokin’ man
It was a present from me Mother
He said I like it I want it
I’ll take it off your hands
And you’ll be sorry you crossed me
You’d better understand that you’re alone
A long way from home
when i am away on vacation I am not interested in listening to someone’s hard luck life story. How did this person casually mention he was an Christian orphan???
I am happy that you seemed to have a wonderful time, tho.
dredlock holiday, correct?
I did fly in once it was work related. That was in 1996 my first time. I worked for a travel agency. I almost fainted when I got off the plane. We stayed at the Hamilton Princess.
I have not been to Bermuda in 19 years. However, back then we found it to be extremely safe. The people were genuinely nice and helpful. Bermuda is one of the more wealthy islands because of their tax laws. This is similar to Cayman and BVI’s.
I would also add Aruba to the list. It really got a bad rap during the whole Natalee Holloway disappearance. I found Aruba to be very safe, people were friendly and seemed like they actually liked the tourists. It is not the prettiest of islands, physically speaking only. Everyone speaks English, they drive on the right side of the road, it is not ridiculously priced and you can get a direct flight from Boston.
I can’t think of Aruba without mentally
sounding the horn of a Model A Ford. LOL
