Without being too preachy about it, the movie engages with climate change, deforestation, and pollution, all of which should be on everyones minds all the time. Dang.
And I was hoping to enjoy this movie.
I am so sick of the "evil humans" mantra.

The 1998 version made a terrible strategic mistake, by having Godzilla sneak and slither around. Godzilla just stands up and stomps everything. Could not stand him sneaking around. My recollection is pretty different, I remember him going on rampage and causing massive destruction for most of the '98 movie rather than "sneak and slither around".
Still, I'd rather have him "sneak and slither around" than not show up at all, which was the case for over half of the 2014 movie. Godzilla had a minor cameo role in his own movie. If they wanted to make a movie that revolved around giant monsters called MUTOs, they should have called it that. The MUTOs in the 2014 movie were cooler creatures than Godzilla anyway.
In any case the Japanese Godzilla movies are better than either American movie. I don't expect that pattern to change. Hollywood doesn't get Godzilla.

I agree it took him too long to show up in the ‘14 version. But the style of the monster was much better in ‘14 than in ‘98.

The 2014 design was much closer to the original 1950s movie but the reason he looked like that in the 1950s movie so they could fit in a human actor in a bulky rubber suit and have him walk around and turn corners.
The 1998 design was closer to a giant prehistoric mutated lizard, which is what Godzilla is supposed to be according to his origin story.

It’s not Godzilla without a guy in a rubber suit crushing cheap toys and Raymond Burr cutaways.

I guess I was partial to the 1955 version because that’s what I grew up with.

It is a sad day. The Japanese actor who was in the early Gozilla movies died at age 88. RIP.

Yep, Godzilla needs to work out at the gym and go on the Nutrisystem diet. He looks very pudgy in the movie trailers LOL.
Mr RooRoo and I are taking our grandson to see Godzilla on Friday. Looking forward to it!
