“The artists gritty black-and-white images captured the seedy underbelly of New York City after dark. He often focused on the onlookers and their reactions to the scene as was unfolding.”
That makes me think of the crime scene photos shown in the midway transition scene of The Godfather (with Coppola’s father playing “This Lonliness”).

Weegee produced thousands of weird, disturbing "slice of life" pictures depicting New York City's seamier side.

I was saw some of “Weegee’s” photos on the “Antiques Roadshow.”
They were worth a boatload of money, so this guy’s discovery is worth a fortune.

Weegee had an inspired eye for the gritty noir character of New York City--especially the 30's, 40's and 50's

My grandfather was a crime scene tech before he retired from Chicago PD. I would have loved to see the photos he had to take. I still have his camera.

Weegee didn’t exactly archive his pictures for most of his career...once the city papers bought what they wanted and they were no longer hot news, he just threw the prints and negatives into a barrel in his darkroom. It wasn’t until he met Wilma Wilcox, towards the end of his life, that his photos began to be organized.

Ive left packages unopeneduntil I need then. Sometimes its a few months. It drives my wife nuts. But to leave it untouched for 50 years? My wife would have tossed that a long time ago, Crappy old black and white pictures!
Thats a nice profit he has in his box!
