It would be really hard to get to the top of Everest on a bike. But if they did, they would joyride all the way down and not give a flying f--- about what might be in the way. My sister lives in the Colorado mountains up a twisty road with many blind turns and once the weather is nice you can be sure a flock of idiots would be sailing down the road in their speedos totally oblivious to the hazards they were causing to oncoming traffic. And that was before they legalized pot! It must be a nightmare now.

"I think back to 1923 when George Lee Mallory and his friend attempted to climb Everest."
The year was 1924 and I believe the consensus in the mountain climbing community is they did not make it. The body of Mallory was found 20 years ago but the body of his companion, Andrew Irvine, was not. Irvine was carrying at least one camera and should his body be found perhaps the film in one of the cameras survived and we'll know if they did or did not make it.

If I had the money to burn, I'd wait until after peak season and go up there by helicopter, hop down, take a selfie and brag I had "reached the top of Mount Everest" to oohs and ahs. You don't have to say you climbed to the top...

I climbed up Everest in my Virtual Reality headset. Forgot to close the door of my den and bumped into it. Seriously. Neat stuff on virtual reality. I’ve been on a Lancaster bomber run over Berlin. The Apollo 11 mission and entering a lifeboat and watching the Titanic go down.

A helicopter might be able to reach the summit of Mt. Everest but it would be at the extreme limits of the aircraft.

She’ll be tumbling down Mount Everest when she comes,
She’ll be broken, frozen shattered when she comes.
She’ll be flying through the cold air
screaming, “Help me, don’t just stand there!”
And still texting from her iPhone when she lands.

It’s like, next time I want to get away from people I’ll go to Disneyland.
It’s like I felt last time I went to Yosemite.

the Yak and Yeti Hotel
That’s for wealthy patrons.
Others use the Yurt Motel.

If everyone was too chicken to experience new and dangerous things, humanity would have died out long ago
I don’t care. I still won’t eat raw oysters.

“Just a collective ego trip for a bunch of people who are bored out of their minds”
Another symptom of today’s most prevalent disease - affluenza. It’s also the cause of the sudden rise in the lgbtqrstuv delusions.
Once the basic physical needs are taken care of, the mind is free to fabricate all sort of delusional needs.

Like sending messages to people you don’t know, and probably wouldn’t even like? Then going into withdrawal when the service is down? You got me.

“Some people want to push life to the limit and experience new things that few others do. Its why we have civilization, inventions, spacecraft, etc, etc. New experiences and pushing oneself unlocks new pathways in the mind and leads to innovation.”
I agree, but I’m not sure these are them. Hillary and Tenzing would qualify.

I had a nice conversation on Saturday with two retired gentlemen who were through-hiking the Appalachian Trail. 2000 plus miles.
I read once that the actual cost is somewhere around $10,000. You end up replacing lots of worn gear, go through 3-4 pair of boots plus have to replenish your food every few days. Most hikers do some occasional hotel stays also to get a shower.
I’ve done a few week long backpack treks. I’d love to try some longer stuff but have to retire first

They have a hand pump facemask used for emergencies. Helps inflate the lungs to max.
