Ed Dohring, a doctor from Arizona, had dreamed his whole life of reaching the top of Mount Everest. But when he summited a few days ago, he was shocked by what he saw.
Climbers were pushing and shoving to take selfies. The flat part of the summit, which he estimated at about the size of two Ping-Pong tables, was packed with 15 or 20 people. To get up there, he had to wait hours in a line, chest to chest, one puffy jacket after the next, on an icy, rocky ridge with a several-thousand foot drop. He even had to step around the body of a woman who had just died.

But if they did, they would joyride all the way down and not give a flying f--- about what might be in the way. My sister lives in the Colorado mountains up a twisty road with many blind turns and once the weather is nice you can be sure a flock of idiots would be sailing down the road in their speedos totally oblivious to the hazards they were causing to oncoming traffic. And that was before they legalized pot! It must be a nightmare now.
My mistake on the year.
Did you catch the date on that article?
2018, why? (Good catch on the month and day.)
I climbed up Everest in my Virtual Reality headset. Forgot to close the door of my den and bumped into it. Seriously. Neat stuff on virtual reality. I’ve been on a Lancaster bomber run over Berlin. The Apollo 11 mission and entering a lifeboat and watching the Titanic go down.

“Just a collective ego trip for a bunch of people who are bored out of their minds”
Another symptom of today’s most prevalent disease - affluenza. It’s also the cause of the sudden rise in the lgbtqrstuv delusions.
Once the basic physical needs are taken care of, the mind is free to fabricate all sort of delusional needs.

“Some people want to push life to the limit and experience new things that few others do. Its why we have civilization, inventions, spacecraft, etc, etc. New experiences and pushing oneself unlocks new pathways in the mind and leads to innovation.”
I agree, but I’m not sure these are them. Hillary and Tenzing would qualify.
I had a nice conversation on Saturday with two retired gentlemen who were through-hiking the Appalachian Trail. 2000 plus miles.
I read once that the actual cost is somewhere around $10,000. You end up replacing lots of worn gear, go through 3-4 pair of boots plus have to replenish your food every few days. Most hikers do some occasional hotel stays also to get a shower.
I’ve done a few week long backpack treks. I’d love to try some longer stuff but have to retire first
They have a hand pump facemask used for emergencies. Helps inflate the lungs to max.
