Full Title: Hoboken’s E-Scooter Program In Chaos After Just 3 Days, Streets Filled With Riders Breaking Traffic Laws
HOBOKEN, N.J. (CBSNewYork) – Three days in and it’s already a disaster in the eyes of many New Jersey residents.
Hoboken’s e-scooter rental program kicked off on Monday after the state legalized the use of the electric vehicles.
Although they’re popular and eco-friendly, the e-scooters aren’t getting a friendly welcome from everyone forced to dodge users not following any traffic laws.
Hoboken residents told CBS2 riders are breaking traffic rules and making the roads even more dangerous.
CBS2 cameras caught people riding on the sidewalk, running red lights, and going the wrong way down one-way streets since the program started less than a week ago.
It was such a concern already, police have put out warning signs, warning the two-wheeled terrors to obey the laws.

The problem with these is that they are motorized, which means they are to be used on the streets, as in the photo. But a scooter against a car is pretty intimidating, and so the scooter drivers go onto the sidewalks where they feel safer. Unfortunately, they are much faster than the pedestrians, and come out of nowhere, so they are a threat to people walking.
There will never be a crackdown on these things. The car haters who run cities love em. They think they will take cars off the road. Never mind the preliminary evidence that what they take off the road is - bikes.
South Park last year had a Halloween episode on the scooters.
I traveled on Washington St by bus on Thursday. There were 5 or 6 scooters near the curb on what seemed like every street. the scooter riders were not wearing helmets.

Armpit? Rents there are among the highest in the NYC metro area. I’d never live there (I’m a few miles west) because I could never live in a city, but Hoboken NJ is a very concentrated area of wealth.
Decades ago it was a total dump; NYC’s collapse put it back on the map.
