"...it became kind of this competition between them almost, and it just wasn't healthy for them,"

Pathetic liberal attitude - 'competition is unhealthy'.

Maybe they were tired of Asian students always getting it, and having to figure out to pronounce their names.

(That’s not meant as a knock on Asian students, far from it)

"Three or four or five, maybe a year are really vying for one spot. And it became kind of this competition between them almost, and it just wasn't healthy for them," Steyer said.

Wait until the liberals want to apply this to elections.

One President? The competition is unhealthy, we need four or five Presidents.

There’s an old saying....if you want to get good at something....play with someone that’s better than you.

Eliminate the job of Principal and let all teachers be co-principals. Equal, right?

I’m sure Patrick Adkins, the superintendent of the Port Clinton school system, will resign and give his job to someone he beat out to get the position.

They are picking out a small group for high honors.

Didn’t this group win that designation by unhealthy competition against the rest of the students? Doesn’t that go against what they say they are trying to accomplish here?

The graduates won’t learn how the real world works, but they will be prepared to behave like snowflakes at college.

Absolutely bizarre.

Notice we’re constantly admonished “We live in a Global Economy”, and the schools ply us with slogans like “Unlimited Vision” and other thought ending clichès.

If they alreally are cognizent of this, why is it our students are confused about say, which bathroom to use, while at the same time 5th graders overseas are taking Calculus. They are not deliberately inducing neurosis in their students. Why the unprecedented push to create a fearful, ignorant and downright useless student body?

Someone ought to tell these little pansies “As you go out to make your way in the world, here are the only two words you will ever need to get through the rest of your lives: “Spare change?’’.

Hmmm… I wonder if that will work with medical school.

‘competition is unhealthy’. It’s the leftist rationale behind rigging elections; of course, once the desired result is achieved, it’s okay to have winners and losers. But only in rigged elections.

Remember that good competition built the American capitalist system. Only through that have we gone to the moon, freed countless prisoners from tyranny, cured millons, advanced science and engineering, fed millions, created wealth and liberated enslved people. China knows. Capitalism showed the world that they could do it too if they want to. You don’t have to work hard if you work smart.

Yeah, trying to do better can lead to stress (to say nothing of increasing production, one of the hallmarks of the U.S.).

One wonders if the parents had a voice in the school's decision or whether it was a simple political move by a handful of school admins. Also wonder if this applies to school athletics.

At the peak of the anti-Vietnam movement, California increased it efforts to remove competition from its entire curriculum, K-12, and it appears to have worked very well for the political agenda.

The ranking of how well you did (e.g. GPA, advanced placement, etc.) should be enough. The competition aspect is inherent in that. All the rest of it is just an exercise in narcissism. The emphasis in high school should be learning, figuring out where your passions are, and figuring out what you’re best at.
