Sometime in March, the most God-awful racket started on our bedroom fireplace flue cap up on the roof. I finally found out it was a Northern Flicker calling a mate. Apparently they like to rat-a-tat on metal because it is far louder that drumming on a tree or a snag. After about five or six weeks, Mr. Flicker took off, and peace was restored. Not sure if he found a mate, though. I only was able to spot him once beating on the flue cap, but he was so far away I couldn’t get a pic.

I’m not good with pictures but I happen to be in the east a few weeks ago and saw a very red breasted Robin

Thanks for making the Bird Thread. I recall Swampsnipers posts and glad you are continuing the tradition :) thank you!

PS. You do great honor to ‘Swampy with photos that are as good or better! It means a lot to me, personally, that you keep the tradition of photographic snipin’ excellence alive. Thank you Chipper!

Love the owl pictures!

Southern Wisconsin report.... I’ve seen hummingbirds, orioles, one scarlet tananger, two indigo buntings, and the pretty gray bird I saw last summer (forgot the name).

We have so many more birds here than at our previous house. Having woods here makes a huge difference. We hear owls here. That’s cool every time. Have not seen them yet.

The Yellow Breasted Chats have returned to my rural Oregon home from Mexico. They are nesting in some of my dense brush out by the blackberries. They are noisy birds.

Cool pictures- becoming an avid bird watcher myself these days. I thought the trumpeter Swan was gone? Saw five swans on a pond late this winter ( in Central MO no less)- then saw a pair a few days later flying overhead, studied up a bit and figured they were Tundra Swans due to the straight necks vice bent necks of the Mute and the Audubon’s description of the Trumpeter being extirpated/extinct....

I’m assuming that SWAMPSNIPER has departed to the Great Beyond?

Click here to see a short video of My Tufted Titmouse Friends

Click here to see one eat from my hand...:)

Gotta tell ya...I adore these birds. I had one during the winter, on a bitter, bitter cold morning, landed in my hand for the peanut, but didn't take the peanut. Instead, he settled right down into my cupped hand and stayed there for about five seconds or so, not moving, just looking at me.

He wanted to just get warm. It was one of the most charming things...ever!

Thanks, miss ‘snipers posts.

The humming birds showed up here at 10k feet in the Rockies. Bet they’re sorry, winter won’t leave, their feeder freezes every night. More snow tomorrow.

We have 8 or 10 Red Crossbills and many Chestnut Backed Chickadees plus various Sparrows and Finches feeding in our garden. I had a fence company build a feeding sanctuary out of chainlink material to thwart the bears in this area ofHumboldt Bay…

Forgot to add Bald Eagles to my list. We see them all year here because there is a river at the back of our property. They fly right over the house. I sometimes catch sight of them as I sit in our fireplace room which has windows on 3 sides.

We more often see them perched in trees along the river about a mile down the road from here. Just saw one on Sunday morning.

I have Western Tanagers eating at my suet again this year about 25 miles SE of Seattle starting up the cascade foothills.
Last year my Mother in laws cat cat killed one and the rest left.
Those, and the humming birds...and some Mallards have taken to a slow section of a little creek we are on.

I put a cow bell on that cat.
He only goes out for a few minutes each day, then she calls him in anyway.

A Red headed Sapsucker woke me up this morning, he was jackhammering on a drain pipe just outside my window.
