Weird Al Yankovic
“I Lost On Jeopardy”

I was there to match my intellect on national TV
Against a plumber, oh and an architect, both with a PhD
I was tense, I was nervous, I guess it just wasn’t my night
Art Fleming gave the answers
Oh, but I couldn’t get the questions right-ight-ight

I lost on Jeopardy, baby, ooh
I lost on Jeopardy, baby, ooh

Well, I knew I was in trouble now
My hope of winning sank
Oh, ‘cause I got the Daily Double now
And then my mind went blank
I took Potpourri for one hundred
And then my head started to spin
Well, I’m givin’ up, Don Pardo
Just tell me now what I didn’t win, yeah, yeah

I lost on Jeopardy, baby, ooh
I lost on Jeopardy, baby, ooh

[Spoken:]
That’s right, Al - you lost
And let me tell you what you didn’t win: a twenty set volume of the Encyclopedia International
A case of Turtle Wax, and a years supply of Rice-A-Roni, the San Francisco Treat
But that’s not all, you also made yourself look like a jerk in front of millions of people
And you brought shame and disgrace to your family name for generations to come
You don’t get to come back tomorrow
You don’t even get a lousy copy of our home game
You’re a complete loser!

Don’t know what I was thinkin’ of
I guess I just wasn’t to bright
Well, I sure hope I do better
Next weekend on the Price Is Right-ight-ight

I lost on Jeopardy, baby, ooh
I lost on Jeopardy, baby, ooh
I lost on Jeopardy, baby

I have watched every game and he clearly uses his knowledge of the odds plus he really knows a lot of information.

I know they are supposed to select the questions far before the contestants are known and I know all the stuff about how they could not cheat.

I think they do cheat.

I don’t think they are giving them the answers or stuff like that but there are plenty of ways to give certain people an advantage.

Having said that, I doubt they really are cheating with him. He really is just that good.

I’ll have to admit, Holzhauer has me mesmerized. He’s incapable of failure. He misses a few, but he leaves his competition in the dust consistently time after time.

A few of them were pretty good matches but James is just too good at playing the game.

I hear there’s a line in Vegas, that Alex Trebeck will be dead before Holzhauer looses. As grim and dark as that sounds it’s quite appropriate and I’m sure James already has put some money on that line..

I am not a regular jeopardy watcher, but have seen Holzhauer a few times. He is like a human computer. I wonder if he has a photographic memory. He seems to know everything. Quite amazing.

The key to Jeopardy is buzzer speed. Most contestants know most of the answers so the secret is to buzz in first. I think that gives a very slight advantage to the returning champions who have had more time to get their timing down.

(For those who don’t know, you can’t buzz in until Alex has finished reading the question and someone on the production activates the buzzers).

The 34-year-old professional sports gambler has piled up $1.7 million in just 22 games

I know people who have literally killed for less than 1/1000 of that amount. So I'm having trouble knowing how being fast, smart and following the rules better than others makes him a bad guy

Har!

I saw that airing with Falco.

She came across like a bitter old maid.

I’m a little surprised to hear her complaints, but not shocked. I had to laugh out loud when she shrieked “it’s a game!” LOL. Well, the dearie wouldn’t still be so upset if she actually believed “it’s only a game,” now would she?

Unlike her tattletale, gossipy revelations, wherein she claimed James Holzhauer treated her, others and even the staff disrespectfully, the champion has always seemed likable and very friendly to me! I know he and Alex have friendly exchanges throughout the show.

In fact, the male contestant who came closest to unseating James, said that the Champ was very gracious to him and his young son.

I’ll stand by my opinion of Falco. Sore loser. Bitter old maid. LOL.

The previous host of Jeopardy, Art Fleming died of pancreatic cancer in 1995 - the same disease Alex Trebek has been diagnosed with.

I've never seen this guy but the descriptions I've seen suggest to me that he's got some kind of photographic memory.I have a nephew like that...when he was 17 his SAT score was in the 95th percentile for math (nationally) and the 93rd percentile in Massachusetts. The kid still remembers a 25 character router PIN I had 10 years...he recited it to me just a month or so ago.

Lots of times when trying to recall specific bits of information we have a sort of premonition that we know the info, but haven’t quite brought it back to the articulable stage yet - probably only a fraction of a second in length, this latency gap could be enough to make a big difference if James were “buzzing” when the premonition hit and bringing up the information in the time it took to be recognized for his response - might be a learnable skill with practice......

This is hilarious!

"I made no secret of the fact that James and I did not get on backstage," she said. "I did not feel he was respectful to me. He wasn’t respectful to a lot of the other people, to the staff, I felt. And he doesn’t have the respect for the game. It wasn’t what we were expecting. It’s not what we prepared for." I have to pause here. What did you prepare for? This is a simple game. You know the answer, you buzz in, you say it in the form of a question, you get money. You didn't study up beforehand? You don't have an impressive breadth of knowledge? You're probably going to lose. And if you're not willing to take some chances when the opportunity arises, you're probably going to lose. In their game that aired on April 26, Holzhauer had $29,600 going in to Final Jeopardy, and Falco was second with $4,600. And that was one of his lower totals during his sizzling streak; Holzhauer astonishingly didn't get a single "Daily Double" in that game, despite answering far more questions correctly than his opponents. He still thoroughly dominated them because he was faster and had a superior intellect.

But....but... she has a vagina! She should have won!

While Holzhauer has improved ratings I wonder if the increased ad revenue matches his winnings? If not he must be a nightmare for the show’s budget. Usually the winners take away $5000-10000, he commonly wins $40k-70K and so far has taken 1.7 million. IMO there is no one who will stop him and he will keep playing until he gets tired of it or they find a way to force him out.
