As a long time Linux user, this will be fun to watch.

I have installed it often for friends and family, most find it easy to make the transition.

A few find it near impossible because of minor compatibility issues with MS software.

Our son the teacher, used it for a few years, but grading papers from MS Word was eating too much of his time dealing with formatting issues. Yes, there is a workaround, he did not want to dedicate his life to the cause.

Probably work as well as it did for Germany.

"Moving to Linux will be fairly pricey in the short term, as it is expected to cost more than a half billion dollars (including hardware upgrades). "

Just what hardware will need to be upgraded to go from Win7 to Linux?

I’m still using XP. Don’t want to cough up $thousands to upgrade a CAD program. No internet connection on that machine...

Widows made a lot of things a lot easier but I think they should be replaced by something other simply because they seem to think they can turn out CRAP and get away with it, rather than waiting to get the new iteration RIGHT.

Germany tried this and failed.

But with more apps being web based it is getting closer to reality. But it’s still not there yet I suspect.

I have Windows 7 on the machine I use and Windows 10 on the computer I don’t use.

Why can’t some enterprising company offer to keep Windows 7 ‘safe and supported’ for a small annual fee? Maybe add it on to an anti-virus program? I would pay for it.

Lots of us would pay it...

We initially blocked most of Microsoft’s phone home meta data from our firewall, but noticed tons of issues with apps not working if we did that. You can’t even register a font in Win 10 now without the traffic reaching out to Microsoft.

There needs to be an all-in-one installation package for Linux and associated software. That is, go back to the old ways, using installation DVDs or thumb drives, based on a checklist of just what you want.

In addition for the licensed stuff, you pay a fee for a tailor made set of DVDs based on your hardware and needs. And all you should need to do is insert disks and click OK, one after the other.

“Windows 10 has extreme telemetry that many people consider to be spying.”

And yet, these same people embrace Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google, Chrome, Amazon, Brennan, Comey, Obama, etc.

FYI: Win 10 Telemetry is easily disabled.

I use a Samsung 12.5 tablet (I have 3 of them) , rarely ever connect keyboard... OS is Win 10 Pro.

I would prefer a Quality 12.5 Tablet with Ubuntu, but none exist.

Specs wanted at a minimum.. Intel i5 .. i7 would be preferable (or equivalent AMD), 8Gb Ram, 256 SSD (but would settle for 128). 64 bit.

Two USB 3.1 C ports would be nice and a removable battery, but neither is going to available as far as I can see.

So I am looking into installing Ubuntu or Mint on a Samsung 12.5 Tablet, anyone done this?
