MONTGOMERY, Ala. The phones began ringing off the hook at the clinic not long after the Alabama governor signed a bill that would ban nearly all abortions in the state, including in cases of rape and incest.
The desperate women calling the POWER House, which is home of Montgomerys only abortion clinic, all wanted to know the same thing.
Theyre asking, Can we still come in? Are you still open?, said volunteer Bianca Cameron-Schwiesow. Theyre in a panic and theyre scared. And we say that is fine, you can still come in because they dont realize that this is going to stay open for the next six months.
If not longer. The law is supposed to go into effect in six months, but likely legal challenges from the American Civil Liberties Union and Planned Parenthood mean it could be years before the controversial Alabama law is enforced, experts have said.
They are still terrified though, said Margot Heartline, who also volunteers at POWER (People Organizing for Womens Empowerment and Rights). They fear theyre going to be thrown in jail if they go to a clinic.
Cameron-Schwiesow said the message they want to get across is that women who need abortions still have a safe place to go and so do the doctors who serve them.
We are here for the patients, to protect them, she said. We try to cover them as much as we can. We are there to comfort and make sure they feel safe and secure and were also here for the doctors to make sure they are safe as well, too.

I don’t care if some women think they have a right to kill their children or not. They don’t and the claim they should have is ridiculous. It is no different than muslims claiming they have a right to kill almost any person they want to kill. They don’t and someone needs to start going to jail.
Is speying an option?
Or, castration for sexual predators?
Alabama is 190 miles wide.
Every state around Alabama allows abortion... If a woman lived right smack dab in the middle of the state she would have to drive 95 miles to get to an abortion state.
Gee said Mary....Maybe I should start using contraception.
Well now we know why theyre knocked up.
All that safety and security and comfort. But none for the small lives living as little guests. All they get is violent death. Disgusting. And the bloody media disgusts me.

WTH? Does NO ONE even TRY to NOT get pregnant? You never hear about prevention of pregnancy from these people, you only hear about GETTING AN ABORTION from Planned Parenthood. If it’s supposed to be PLANNED Parenthood shouldn’t the emphasis be put on PREVENTING Unplanned pregnancies? Geez, isn’t birth control available from these people or are women too stupid to use it?
An investigation needs to be done about why PP is more obsessed with killing babies than preventing unwanted pregnancies.
“Or, castration for sexual predators?”
Convicted rapists should get the death penalty. Period. Let’s see the anti-death penalty libs and pro-abortion libs fight this one out.
I agree with the six month implementation term.
Those who got pregnant under the old rules can continue to get an abortion during the next six months.
Folks, today, can plan and organize theirs lives around this new law.
Both Women and Men need to be accountable and responsible for the Life they jointly create.
For those women who get pregnant next week, the abortion option should be off the table
