GREENVILLE, S.C. A 47-year-old man was injured by a K-9 during an arrest, and the handler has been put on leave while the incident is investigated, according to the Greenville County Sheriffs Office.
A news release said that at about 2:40 p.m. on April 28, deputies went to a home on Columbia Avenue to take Kevin Leroy Scott White into custody because he was wanted in Florida.
Deputies said as they pulled up, White drove up on a moped, jumped off and ran into a wooded area.
The deputies and K-9 tracked White and eventually found him hiding inside a dishwasher, underneath a porch at a nearby mobile home park.
The news release said when the K-9 bit White on the side, the handler lost his footing which allowed slack in the leash, and the K-9 released his bite on Whites side and bit him on the head.
White, who deputies said was in possession of crystal meth, was taken to the hospital for treatment, and later admitted.
White was released from the hospital and booked into the Greenville County Detention Center on charges of failure to stop for a blue light, driving under suspension, failure to register a motor vehicle, reckless driving, possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and resisting arrest.
Investigators from the office of professional standards reviewed the case and placed the K-9 handler, Deputy Kenneth Sandefur, a five-year veteran, on administrative leave. The South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division is investigating any potential violations of the law.
Good shoot...er...bite.
Yes, lets focus on the dog handlers potential crime...
1. Don’t mess with meth.
2. Don’t run from the cops.
He got bit? As we used to say back during the Cold War, toughsky shitsky.
I tend to think he looked worse before the dog bites.
So what?
Let’s not be too tough on this guy. After all, who among us has not hidden in a dishwasher at one time or another?
Especially one under the porch of a trailer house ...
“...and eventually found him hiding inside a dishwasher,..”
Should have shut the door and turned it on.
Kevin’s awful, terrible, horrible day.
Worst part is he almost broke a fingernail climbing out of that dishwasher.
It would have been funny if somebody had turned that dishwasher on, not knowing the Suspect was hiding.
“Do you hear knocking? I think it’s coming from inside the dishwasher!”
If the dishwasher is outside, what other ‘conveniences’ are outside.
To ‘charge’ the handler when he lost his footing, chasing some fool through the woods, trailer park then have the guy UNDER the porch IN a dishwasher.
Methinks this guy may have qualified as a tunnel rat back in the Vietnam days...
The article states he is 47 and he definitely has put ALL 47 years on a hard row to hoe....
The dog was doing what he was trained to do.
If “Florida Man” hadn’t been a dumbass, there would be no need for the dog.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
I don’t always hide in a dishwasher but when I do...
I hope the dog is OK.
Dog is going to need tetanus and rabies shots, STAT!
I hope the K-9 pupper is up to date on all his veterinary shots...
All units, be on the lookout . . . . Florida man is now suspected to be in South Carolina
Florida man gets around.
