Legislation introduced in Washington, D.C., would allow certain residents to write out parking tickets to their neighbors.
The goal of the omnibus Vision Zero bill, from council member Charles Allen of Ward 6, is to decrease the number of traffic accidents with pedestrians and cyclists.

A few highlights: - Makes some smart changes to our laws, like ending “right on red” and lowering speeds on residential streets to 20 MPH. - Changes the presumption at residential intersections to make them all-way stops.

- Adds substantial fines when contractors & utilities don’t replace crosswalks & bike lanes immediately after road work. - Requires developers to include new sidewalks, crosswalks & markings, protected bike lanes, & plans for legal curbside drop off of rideshare or deliveries.

I read somewhere, in the early days of motoring, anyone could make an arrest for speeding or at least hold someone till the cops showed up. Not sure how well that worked.

What’s with the NE opposition to right turns on red lights?
Bicyclists won’t stop for stop signs or bother to sit through a red light when turning right.
They’re due for a shooting war in DC. Odds are that so many crooks in one geographical area will result in bedlam!

Never mind the headline. This obsession with getting bikes in everywhere and letting 1% of the vehicular public rule the rest has to stop. Total BS and lousy ROI even in the most limo-lib areas.
The most ridiculous traffic-control technique are absurd four-way stop signs. They just create trouble and confusion.

They are not so bad.
You know these stops are ahead, and slow down to a stop (as opposed to speeding up for a light and braking hard if you miss).
Folks look at who is already there when they arrive. You just let them go first, and you go at your turn.
I prefer them over lights. The light stops me for a while, even in the middle of the night, while the stop lets me slow, stop, and proceed.
If you aren’t familiar with the 4-ways, yes you may be confused.
Maybe DC can have a sturdy wooden box:
You can turn in your neighbors if you suspect they own offensive guns.
