Exposed: How Amazon destroys millions of new items it can’t sell

Amazon destroys millions of brand-new items including televisions, books and nappies it cannot sell, an investigation has revealed.

Lorry-loads of goods, many still in their packaging, are dumped in sprawling landfill sites or incinerated. The shocking waste was revealed by undercover investigators who secretly filmed in one of the multi-billion-pound company’s enormous warehouses.

Reporters posing as Amazon workers discovered an area called the ‘destruction zone’ where they covertly filmed staff loading pristine toys, unused kitchen equipment and flat-screen TVs into skips to be transported to dumps.

I am with you, hardly use the net for shopping anymore except for industrial suppliers. I despise click through “shows”.

I grew up in Long Beach, Cal right after WWII. My parents told stories (don’t know if they were true or not) of seeing barges full of boxed jeeps and trucks being loaded on barges to be dumped at sea. Even in the 60s there were rumors floating about of warehouses being discovered full of surplus military equipment. No new cars had been produced during the war years so the waste of perfectly-fine new vehicles seemed terrible. But if the government had sold them, how would Ford, GM, Chrysler, Packard, etc. get back into the car business?

That’s what everybody does with unsold inventory.

Maybe the "sell by" date has passed? 😹 But, we've seen stranger things right?

Trying to find a problem with this..... can’t.

I mean, someone could see this problem and step in and say they will be glad to remove these items for free or for less than it cost Amazon to dump them, them donate them around the world to starving countries or something. Or? We get rid of junk that isn’t working in our homes, and companies dump or destroy things all the time. Maybe there is some island somewhere wearing LA Rams 2019 Super Bowl Champs sweatshirts.

I went through the same with a defective aftermarket Willys jeep windshield frame. Amazon said keep it.

With some effort and creativity I got it to work.

[[The Daily Mail does some interesting stories but the web site is so annoying with pop up videos ]]

You don’t use adblock plus? it won’t prevent soem htings, but it sure does cut down on ads- helps a lot

You’re right. There is an entire cottage industry on these pallets. There are many youtube videos on pallet unboxing.

It would seem like they could offer them at deep discounts instead of trashing them- or sell them to smaller businesses who would offer them at deep discounts- at the very least-

Interesting. Mine wasn’t defective. I just decided I didn’t want it and they gave me the refund and said keep it.

And yet the Mail is a better American paper than any American paper. We know the Brits are going down the tubes and yet their newspapers give us more American news than ours, to the shame of American media.

You also hear stories about milk tankers dumping milk into ravines, gasoline tankers dumping gas. Whether you believe the stories seems to depend on your gullibility quotient.

I use Adblock Plus, also no script. I also have another Firefox add-on that is supposed to block Auto running HTML video. It seems to work but not everywhere. And it doesn’t work on the daily mail site.

On my Android phone I simply have JavaScript blocked. Which breaks a lot of sites and limits where I actually use it if I go online. Unfortunately I can’t do that on my computer, because it breaks too many sites that I need for work.

No one bothered printing such shirts this year. They have already designed the 2020 Patriots Super Bowl Champions T-Shirts
