‘Lady and the Tramp’ Will Revamp Problematic Siamese Cat Song, Feature New Music From Janelle Monae
Variety ^ | May 6, 2019 | MATT DONNELLY and CHRIS WILLMAN

Grammy winner Janelle Monae will contribute new music to the Disney Plus streaming title “Lady and the Tramp,” in addition to her voice role in the live-action reboot.

Monae will perform two original songs for the film, led by Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux. Monae’s artist collective Wondaland is also “reinventing” a track from the original 1955 animated movie, individuals close to the project said.

That would be “The Siamese Cat Song,” originally recorded by Peggy Lee for the feline duo Si and Am in the animated version. Those characters and their famous refrain — “We are Siamese if you please / We are Siamese if you don’t please” — have long been considered a cringe-worthy depiction of Asian culture.

Though Siamese cats seem to simply not like to be touched at all than other breeds I’ve encountered, I’ve found perfectly friendly Siamese cats. Many of those are friendly, and will rub you for attention and purr...then spontaneously claw you.

They’ll probably portray the Russian dog wearing a MAGA hat.

“How many of those SJWs offended by the song could find Siam on a map?”

How old are your maps that they still have Siam on them??

And while beautiful cats, Siamese cats have a well-earned reputation that has nothing at all to do with Thailand.

But it has everything to do with the fact that they are the spawn of Satan. I should know ... I have one and she's a total beyotch.

WTF do Siamese cats have to do with ‘Asian culture’? The world is run by retards.

Yeah, they sing that lyric because Siamese cats are a bit stand-offish, from what I understand.

"We are Siamese, if you please. We are Siamese if you don't please." IOWs, we don't care what you think about us, we just do what we want. They then go about making trouble for the Cocker Spaniel "Lady". It is a cute bit. Why, oh why, do lefties have to ruin everything. They take a cartoon lyric, sung by animater drawn cats, which, if you watch it in context, i.e. within the film, it makes a lot of sense. But, in today's world, we take the lyric and make it into a racial insult.

Stop the world, I want to get off.

Too bad — it’s a great song and a great scene. I figured it would fall under PC censorship some day and I guess that day has come.

It’s kind of interesting that the Scottie dog character, who is fully ethnic with his brogue and his tartans, doesn’t seem to be a problem.

"There is something depressing about it, and it’s not really about dogs. Except for some superficial bow-wow stuff at the start, the dogs all represent human types, which is where it gets into real trouble. Lady, the ostensible protagonist, is a fluffy blond Cocker Spaniel with absolutely nothing on her brain. She’s great-looking, but – let’s be honest – incredibly insipid. Tramp, the love interest, is a smarmy braggart of the most obnoxious kind – an oily jailbird out for a piece of tail, or… whatever he can get….he’s a self-confessed chicken thief, and all-around sleazeball. What’s the function of a film of this kind? Essentially as a primer on love and marriage directed at very young people, imprinting on their little psyches the idea that smooth-talking delinquents recently escaped from the local pound are a good match for nice girls from sheltered homes. When in ten years the icky human version of Tramp shows up around the house, their hormones will be racing and no one will understand why. Films like this program women to adore jerks." - Metropolitan.

I don’t seem to be able to identify the citation.

Who or what is Metropolitan, please.

1990 Whit Stillman film about young rich party goers in New York.

Chris Eigeman's character delivers a long monologue about Lady and the Tramp.

It was so strange and unexpected and over the top, that it's sort of classic.

Didn’t see those. Also watched Jersey Boys over the weekend. Lotta effies in that too.

Have I become a prude?

Now that was cringeworthy.

I was watching “Breakfast At Tiffany’s” with my (Chinese immigrant) girlfriend when that came along. To be sure, he’s supposed to be a caricature of a Japanese, who the Chinese have no particular love for, but it certainly induced a few cringes from me.

Nah...not the world...just the “new” Disney studios. The original song is an absolutely perfect capture of the attitude of the Siamese cat, as anyone who has ever been owned by one well knows.

I agree, I haven’t been to a movie since Forrest Gump and as far as I can tell, I haven’t missed anything. I refuse to support the liberal, leftist degenerate Trump hating a$$holes in Hollywood.
