Grammy winner Janelle Monae will contribute new music to the Disney Plus streaming title Lady and the Tramp, in addition to her voice role in the live-action reboot.
Monae will perform two original songs for the film, led by Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux. Monaes artist collective Wondaland is also reinventing a track from the original 1955 animated movie, individuals close to the project said.
That would be The Siamese Cat Song, originally recorded by Peggy Lee for the feline duo Si and Am in the animated version. Those characters and their famous refrain We are Siamese if you please / We are Siamese if you dont please have long been considered a cringe-worthy depiction of Asian culture.

Here are the writers, including Peggy Lee, talking about and developing the song, from just before 3:30 on:

...think I'll stop eating there at noon. They can feed you cat and you never know, once they wrap it up in dough..
One of my favorite song spoofs!
Exactly!
Chinese restaurants serving rice? Racist stereotype!
Mexican restaurants serving tacos? Bah! Racist stereotype!
Polish restaurants serving pierogi? No! Racism!
Austrian restaurants serving weiner schnitzel? Racism!
Middle Eastern restaurants serving falafel and hummus? Horrors!
I watched the remake of “A Star is Born”. It might set a record for the number of utterances of the f-word. The movie has its good points. It’s like a bowl of decent soup but with turds thrown in.
The lyrics aren’t the problem. Although it’s funny to see that Disney was already embarrassed about “there’s be some head for me, and some tail for you,” which I never thought about til someone else mentioned that on this thread!
Oh My Gosssshhh
Mentioning a breed of cat!!!!!
Life is effing good if our greatest worry that mentioning a known cat breed might offend people whose ancestry comes from a similar country.
Political correctness cannot go too far, but we see that it can become a very long game of twister.
The article claims the refrain has long been cringe-worthy.
If they want to make changes with a remake, that’s okay with me—their right to try to please their audience.
But the revisionist slams against such work of the past is to me unfounded and annoying.
We have to remove all statues of Peggy Lee.
Is this a trick question?
Siam hasn't been on a map since 1932.

Just what I was thinking as the inevitable next step!
Yes, it is a trick question. But if you took a course in world geography in high school you would know where to look. Most schools don’t teach that subject anymore.

They'd have a better chance from studying Rogers and Hammerstein's musicals!

LOL. Good point!
[[WTF do Siamese cats have to do with Asian culture? The world is run by retards.]]
Tie them all to a chair and show them Breakfast at Tiffany’s.
My friend’s household pets are two Siamese cats and a Jack Russell Terrier. The movie accurately depicts them. I visited a couple of weeks ago and found the Siamese unfriendly to the max. My cat, a rescue, is the love of my life. The expensive Siamese have pedigrees as long as a royal decree
***a cringe-worthy depiction of Asian culture.***
I always thought it was just a pair of Siamese cats deciding who would get..”A head for you, a tail for me!” of the goldfish.
Gee, as an “Asian”, I don’t know whether I’m more offended by the racist description of cartoon Siamese cats or by the racist removal of cartoon Siamese cats. Yes, let’s just remove them from view. Out of sight, out of mind.
>>They have no individuality; their innocent blue eyes bend into a sinister glare as they cave at the slant. They are jaundiced and sly; sick and feral; domesticated, though nevertheless propelled by their mischievous, impish nature to deceive and intimidate, wrote author Marcus Hunter, who called them a colonist nightmare.<<
O Disney, bring back the TAR BABY!
Yet another word which indicates to me that the author is a flaming idiot.
