Well they certainly weren't expecting that.
No need to guess. 86% of Lithonia residents are black and 9% are white. I'm sure the reaction would have been quite different if the reporter and cameraman were black instead of white.
Happens all the time. My daughter is a Level I Trauma Nurse. One time there was a rash of infections at a local school. Several of the students were being treated in her ER, and like a plague of locusts, local news reporters showed up. My daughter was trying to help several of the patients when a reporterette with a camera crew barged into the bay where she was, shoved a mike into her face and began asking questions about her patient (HIPAA be damned). The head ER doctor ordered the news crew out and called security.
How does Denny’s continue to exist?? I went to the local one with my wife’s theater group once, that’s seven people. We all ordered different breakfast meals (it was 9AM or so). When the food came out not one of the 7 orders was correct. Some were totally wrong. It was as if the cook didn’t even look at the tickets but just whipped up whatever was close to hand. I have heard similar stories about Denny’s here and that place has been in business for more than 20 years.May a lot of people like random selections and that is why enough still go there that they stay open. or maybe food is not their primary business. An inordinately high priced clothing store with few customers did recently get closed down as a money laundry. I have wondered if Denny’s is in that business.
Did diversity play a role?

Good help is hard to get.
And more so for lower price kitchen/wait staff.
You don’t need to guess
I worked many years for the same employer, you develop an affinity for them,and a dislike, particularly against outsiders.
Some dumb ass comes in and starts bothering me... I know not to hit them, but I can yell all I need to!
My wife and I love sitting at the counter and watch the cooks handle more than a dozen or more orders simultaneous at Waffle House. Every meal we’ve ordered has been cooked just as we’ve asked.
I’ve never had a bad experience.
I saw my first Denny’s in Los Angeles in 1969 and it was terrific.
But for the last 30 years in the northeast, they’ve been terrible.
Ask for two eggs over medium and you get two broken yolks undercooked, every time.
I used to love Grand Slams but never again.
