Actually, the liver should generally regenerate.
It is even possible to reduce cirrhosis, and a relative is doing exactly that after 30+ years with Hepatitis C.

Growing new skin and organs in a laboratory is exactly what all the biotechnology companies are working on.
My son went up to a company in Maine that is trying to figure out how salamanders can regenerate their limbs.
The US military is very interested in being able to patch battlefield injuries. They are granting money to several different research companies trying to grow skin.
The first company that can grow a liver, kidney, heart in a lab is the next billion dollar company.
