The last time the Strogoff's saw Diamond was one day before the Montecito Mudslide destroyed their property and surrounding neighborhood.
The family decided to evacuate their home when warnings came in about the impending storm. They left quickly and couldn't round up their two cats, Diamond and Huguette, in time. When they returned home a few days later to assess the damage to their property, their pets were nowhere to be found.
The family had to relocate for a year until their property was repaired. They returned home in January 2019...
On Monday, Noelle was talking to a worker who was helping her with some renovations when she decided to tell him about her cat, Diamond.
The man, who didn't want to be identified, told Noelle that her desciption matched that of a cat he had been feeding for quite some time. They pulled out their cell phones and compared pictures.
"Twenty minutes later, I'm following him to his home and there's Diamond totally fine," she said.
People who spot pets that appear to be without a home, are urged to take a photo and share on Facebook or with the Humane Society.
Noelle also urged Montecito residents to keep their eyes and hearts open as the search continues for the remains of two children killed in the mudslide: 2-year-old Lydia Sutthithepa and 17-year-old Jack Cantin.

Wonderful.
"Family finally found me? Eh, ok, whatever"........
Can’t blame it for being a little miffed.
Proving cats can more easily adapt in the wild than children.
Ah, so someone finally tried calling it in by opening the window and turning on the can opener...
Cat: “Bad servant! What took you so long?”
We had a giant black stray cat that was one of about a dozen an old man who lived down the street was putting food out for. He was constantly getting into our garage and marking everything. I finally caught him with a trap and transported him to another neighborhood that was almost 10 miles away and on the other side of a divided highway.
The next morning he was back sitting in front of our garage and growling and hissing at me. So I gave up, but not too long afterwards some coyotes moved into our neighborhood and ate all the stray cats. After they left we had an explosion of rats and mice getting into everything.
Dat cat warn’t missin’. It knowt whar it whar all the time.
After they left we had an explosion of rats and mice getting into everything.

Not that unusual. Change the environment and different inhabitants show up.
“After they left we had an explosion of rats and mice getting into everything.”
That is what is going to happen in Australia after they succeed in poisoning all the stray cats.
Nothing brings my cat faster than food hitting the bowl.
And who knows what will happen to the predators who eat the poisoned cats. They’re going to screw up their whole eco-system.
“but not too long afterwards some coyotes moved into our neighborhood and ate all the stray cats”
Out east it was foxes. And the old saying was if a fox moves in your neighborhood the first thing to go are the rabbits in the cats.
Nowadays I guess coyotes can be included in that statement, but where I live I’ve only seen two coyotes in the last decade but I reckon they are around. I saw an emu running around about 10 years ago too.
Lookout! Toonces was seen crawling out of the Pet Semetary!
Cats know where they live.
Cats, rats, mice...if it’s not a marsupial. it’s not indigenous, anyway. The environment will just seek a different balance.
