I never thought Id say this, but thats a lot of oysters, Kristen Amy McElhaney said Tuesday, about two-thirds of the way to setting a new womens record at Wintzells Oyster House in Mobile.
Since she was a little girl, McElhaney had wanted to be on the board of recordholders at Wintzell's. And now, at 33, she'd decided to go for it and raise some funds for the Distinguished Young Women scholarship competition. She'd been a participant in 2002, and an oyster-eating challenge has long been a part of the AJM/DYW experience.
But McElhaney wasn't playing at the amateur level anymore. Now she was trying to top a women's record of 215 raw oysters downed in an hour, set by Beth Larimore Carter on May 1, 1997.

The only time I tried a raw oyster, I got it half
down my throat and escorted it right back out.
LOL
I love raw oysters but quit eating them about 10 years ago. I don’t believe it’s worth the risk.
Many now are what they call “farm raised” and I believe they’re safer than what they used to be. I believe the farm raised are harvested in baskets in open waters where they have a pretty good flow of water but it’s still too risky for me.

There is a Damon Runyon Theater episode of a female power eater.
That probably inspired Little Lotta.
I have to go to Wikipedia to look up so many things so often on this site that’s it’s crazy :)
Looked up Damon Runyon Theater
Interesting.
I have to look things up because either i am just not well versed in the subject at hand or it was before my time.
If FR is still going in 20 years, I will be 71 and people will be looking up things I remember from my teens and 20s that I mention :)
And they will also be looking up everything about all the other subjects I learned on here.

Linda Lovelace?
I won a contest by putting away 168 on a half shell in, I wanna say in 5 min. The following year I put a down a few less, and lost to two jar heads. On aside note, my son was born 9 months later. My wife swears this was cause and effect.
Definitely predates Linda with a voice that would curdle milk.
Damon Runyon Theater is one of good discoveries on XM148.
It’s all on YouTube as well.
I like the music style in the Mayfair Production.
At first glance I thought the article was about .223 oysters?
I shall check it out.
I see what you did there!
It’s all light hearted action comedy with normals, unsavory citizens and sometimes the gendarmes.
Sounds good.
I’ve watched more than a few things i’ve been clued on in at this site.
It’s free, and if i don’t like it I turn it off.
If I like it, I’ve found something new to enjoy :)
