A state bill that could unleash hundreds of locked-up murderers, rapists and other hardened felons is incensing New York City law enforcement officials who say it would undo years of crime-fighting.
The elder parole bill, which would grant parole eligibility to all inmates ages 55 and up who have been in prison at least 15 years, is outrageous and idiotic, said Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon.

What is wrong with these people? Do the felons get to vote once they’re out?
Not to mention the obvious inequity of such a commutation of their sentences. Namely: One 56-year-old convict sentenced to 30 years for a double-murder and who has already been imprisoned for 15 years would be released - while another 56-year-old serving a sentence for a far lesser crime and who has served only, e.g., 14 years, would continue to be imprisoned.
Regards,
I favor it as long as there is a provision that David Berkowitz must be housed right next to Cuomo’s residence.
If they are so interested in saving incarceration costs, they should re-institute capital punishment for three-time-losers.
Justice the next step in ‘Criminal Justice Reform’, which is basically a code-word for emptying of the jails. So nothing surprising here.
Dems voted for this crop of politicians.
They are getting what they wanted.
It's called "vote harvesting."
Age plus length of service. Isn’t that his governments calculate Eligibility for government pensions? Sounds like professional courtesy.
Mo din't put up with criminality unless it was his own.
Take away NYC, pockets of the surrounding suburubs, Albany, Rochester, Buffalo and the college towns, and NY is as RED as any state in the country. Unfortunately, that is where all the people live. Let each county get 3 electoral votes. If the county goes completely in one direction, that candidate gets all 3 votes. If its close, the winner gets 2 of the votes while the loser gets 1. I think we’d all be surprised by what the election results just might be. I guess the same could go for almost every state in the country except for a few in the New England.
As for this legislation, believe it or not, it does make a little sense. Research shows that at some point, these guys won’t be recidivist. That’s provable. There are guys doing time that are in their 60s and 70s. However, murder-rape-some robbery’s, nope, no way, not going to happen. You committed those crimes, you will do the time. There are other guys in there for doing other things, though. They want to make some room, take the oldest guys in the place, see what they’re in for and work your way down from there stopping at around 60.
But, these policies come from insane liberals in NYC and Albany and the people of NY don’t have a say.
Democrats, of course, desperate for votes, are very willing to let murderers out to murder innocent people.
So “Life without Parole” means until age 55 in New York?
A big “I told you so” to all the death penalty opponents on FR.
The Dems seem to have two characteristics, stupid, that come from a self-inflicted blindness and deafness, and downright evil. Setting those dangerous felons loose will cause a crisis upon which big government will have to fix with more tax dollars and another stupid/evil idea.
Liberals ruin everything.
Looks like legislation riding in the wake of the Obama/Kushner prisoner release bill.
New Democratic party = FUBAR
