Australian officials are killing millions of feral cats by airdropping frozen sausages laced with poison across the Outback.
The felines die within 15 minutes of ingesting the toxic treats, which are produced at a factory close to Perth.
But in a bid to kill as many as possible, officials also trap and shoot the creatures.
The sausages are made with kangaroo meat, chicken fat, herbs, spices and the poison, 1080, the New York Times reported.

Yes I feed them. Probably shouldn’t.
1080 (monofluoroacetic acid) is really nasty stuff. It doesn’t break down very quickly and is extremely toxic to just about everything with a Krebs cycle. Cyanide would be a lot safer.
Stupid and ignorant.
In our modern day civilization we have access to the world's knowledge AT OUR FINGERTIPS, yet people do stuff like this.
It makes the Bible reference to 'pearls before swine' very relevant.
Remember the Cane Toad!
The rats? Mice? Bunnies? Feral kitteh’s??? We had a mom and four kits that she dropped in our shed. They had just stumps for a tail and their hind quarters were raised up. Weird looking. They did hiss and growl a lot, left them alone and eventually left.
Why don’t they just have the dingos kill the cats ?
Of course there will be, worst way possible to eliminate their problem.
I hate the use of poisons to control animals.
Not only does 1080 break down, but the poison does not affect indigenous animals. Local plants actually make the poison and the locals are immune to it. The 1080 used as poison is synthetically manufactured.
You are a good person! Our now tame feral came out of the woods & would sit far away & look at us. Then we put out bowls of food. She inched closer, so did the food. Eventually we set up a doghouse on a workable in our carport. Loaded it w/ blankets & quilts. Next to it a tall table where she ate her food & had water. It took awhile, but she loved to be petted. We trapped her & had her spayed. Finally two Thanksgivings ago when it was bitterly cold my husband put on thick gloves & caught her & brought her in. She sleeps on the bed with us now.
She’s darling & loving.
“What could possibly go wrong? ;-)”
How many indigenous carnivorous species inhabit Australia besides dingoes and drop bears?
Crocs and sharks excluded.
So, normal Australian cuisine then.
Itll never work. Mankind has been attempting to kill pussies with tainted sausages for eons, yet the pussies have managed to survive somehow.
It sort of reminds me of an old Gunsmoke episode with Strother Martin.
Barbaric! Just like the Chinese!
