DANIEL JONES?!?!?!? While its a toss-up between the Giants and the Raiders for who made the most head-scratching selection of the first night of the NFL draft, theres no doubt that Giants fans were more upset that their team took Duke quarterback Daniel Jones than Oakland fans were that they reached for Clemson pass-rusher Clelin Ferrell.
The Giants are in desperate need of a quarterback to succeed Eli Manning and were lucky to be picking sixth behind a bunch of teams that already sorted out their QB situations. They also need help on defense and held a second first-round pick at No. 17 that they could use on a passer in a deep QB draft.
So what did they do at No. 6? Did they take Kentucky pass-rusher Josh Allen, who surprisingly slipped to them after the Raiders took Ferrell? Did they take one of the quarterbacks Dwayne Haskins or Drew Lock, widely considered neck-and-neck for the second-best QB prospect in the draft? No, they took Jones, the least imaginative pick possible and a guy who probably would have been available at No. 17.

At least the Raiders and Redskins have won Super Bowls.
And then there are the Detroit Lions.
Heck, even the Bungles have been to two Super Bowls.
Your ball coach sure knows how to recruit defensive talent. Lots of Mullen players from Miss State drafted.
At least they all got picks.
The Cowboys traded all their away!
I think their next pick is in the 12th round somewhere near #30................
Amari Cooper was worth a first round draft, they got more out of Cooper than out of any of those picks.
The Mannings and David Cutcliffe connection. Both Mannings have spent some off-season time in Durham the past few years.
True. He was a good pick-up..................
I don’t even follow these things that closely ( teams other than Clemson ) but this one has me scratching my head. Was at the Clemson Duke game and saw Jones at QB. I wasn’t impressed. i looked at his yearly stats and they seemed to have gone down across the board with his worst season being 2018.
One would think Josh Allen would have been a better pick at 6 and they could have had Jones at 17, but its been reported that the Skins wanted Jones for qb. Only time will tell.
He’ll be a darn good NFL QB, just watch.

He has a rifle (with a scope) for an arm and some good foot speed for a big QB. In any of those throws in the video did his receiver ever have to throttle back his speed - caught in stride and at full gallop each time. On the money throws; easy catches.
It was a good pick.
I think I understand the Patriots approach and why they’ve been successful for as long as they have been.
They understand that in football, a team is only as good as their weakest link. You can have all the All-Pros you want on one team, but if you have a gaping weakness, it will be exploited. The Patriots understand that winning is about having the strongest “weakest link” over the other teams, which is why they simply focus on looking at the weak spots on their team and upgrading them, and it doesn’t take necessarily big name, big money players to do that.
Giants are going to regret letting Tom Coughlin leave the organization.
I am surprised some NFL team hasn’t picked up Brandon Silvers.
He is a big reason why Troy beat LSU and probably did beat Clemson tho Troy got royally rogered by the refs.
He has kicked around various minor league teams but always looked good in the few short clips I have seen of him.
Wow, thought the title said hot chicks. Not the analysis I was expecting...
I don’t understand taking Jones with Lock available. Of course the Giants fans wanted Haskins because he has more “upside” and “burst” and is a “fast twitch athlete” whereas Jones is “blue collar” and a “throwback” who “carries his lunchpail to work everyday.”
Meanwhile, the other Giant 1st round pick, Deondre Baker, got torched head to head by U. Mass. WR Andy Isabella, who remains on the board. Lack of burst, but he is a “savvy route runner” whose “motor never stops.”
Dang, I thought the headline said, Friday’s Hot Chicks
As a life-long Eagles fan, I love Gettleman.
Same here. Jones was the only name I didn’t want to hear among the top 100 prospects & that’s the name they uttered for the #6 pick.
