In the same article, the Post also reports on a backlash against this amazing generosity. A leader of the Yellow Vest movement says that if donors can give so much money to rebuild Notre Dame, they should stop telling us there is no money to help deal with the social emergency.
But the donations to Notre Dame are coming from private donors. No one denies they have money. Its the French government thats running out.
Some in the Yellow Vest movement probably favor the government taking yet more money from the wealthy to help deal with the social emergency. Thats understandable. There always have been, and always will be, folks who want to take money from the rich. But private efforts to help rebuild Notre Dame arent an argument for doing so.
Would the Yellow Vests have a better claim on the wealth of donors if instead of contributing to the Cathedral they hoarded their money or spent it on yachts and planes? Of course not.
The Yellow Vests arent the only political faction that feels aggrieved by the generosity of donors to Notre Dame. Right on schedule, some leftists are characterizing the donations as just another example of white privilege.
They note the comparatively low amount of Euros that have been pledged to restore Brazils National Museum that burned last September. They also point to the lack of donations to restore ancient sites destroyed by ISIS in Syria.

Yep.
And I don’t see all the excitement about the yellow vests on this board sometimes.
It’s sounds like they’re socialists who want MORE free money.
I could be very wrong.
Kind of think you might be. But not sure. Remains to be seen what French can do these days. Either way it’s a change from the current status quo.
I don’t think we should call them ‘the left’. We should come up with new names for them, that accurately describe the reality of who they are. Examples: ‘the unwitting’, ‘the oblivious’, ‘the shallow misinformed’, etc.
A mix of both?
You are right. The status quo is a disaster.
Christianity has to be stopped the left believes.
When he walked out of his Church on Easter Sunday, I realized his Christian faith is why Robert Mueller couldn’t tell that one last lie.
I can think of some other names :)
Leftists always want charred ruins to exemplify their meager lives.
This is an effort to discredit the yellow vest movement by trying to get you to believe they are leftists. They are very middle class. They have yellow vests because if you own a car you have to have buy yellow vests [from the crony capitalists who sell yellow vests] under the argument that they are needed for safety in the event of breakdown. If you own a car in France you are middle class.
Wow.
Thanks for clearing it up.
And I DID NOT know that absurdity about the yellow vests.
“I can think of some other names :)”
LOL! Yours are probably more accurate.
I don’t think I know any Christians that donate money to non Christian organizations. There are similar organizations with Christian backgrounds to donate money to.
Haters don’t really know this about Christians they just assume that they own the market on places to donate money to, which is far from the truth. They are so blind and so many ways.
Yes. I have been surprised by the number of Facebook friends posting a meme that basically says the Catholic Church has lots of money. Donate instead to the victims in Puerto Rico, etc. They always think they have the right to tell you where your charitable money should go. When Socialists control, Charities die. The Government takes what it wants and gives it to the people it wants.
I think idiots is adequately describes them.
Yep a mix of twah. I dont think they have a solid thought of how their future should look like but they are sure that the stuff ain’t working and hasn’t been for a long time.
The Irrationally Angry?
“The Irrationally Angry?”
I like it. But maybe ‘idiots’ is the simplest and most accurate. Maybe just, ‘the thick’.
Also having brat attacks comparing the Notre Dame donations to the amount donated to various black churches in the US as “wealth inequality.” The fact that there are plenty of black millionaires in the sports and entertainment community who apparently don’t donate to rebuild churches escapes them.

My late father-in-law called them invincibly ignorant. He was referring mainly to a couple of his daughters. Years later their ignorance is still invincible and one has spread that invincibility to two daughters of her own. The saying applies: You can’t wake someone who is only pretending to be asleep.
