Captain Marvel has made more than $1 billion worldwide, and one man can lay claim to contributing more to that box-office haul than anyone else in the world: Steve Ruppel of Wisconsin. After setting a Guinness World Record by seeing Brie Larsons superhero drama 104 times at the Marcus Cedar Creek Cinema in Rothschild 104 times, the apparent super fan went back 12 more times for good measure.
I thought it was the most insane thing ever, I thought it was impossible, Ruppel told local news station WSAW of his feat. I wasnt even sure why it was even a record, but I thought after a while I should probably do that.'
If youre wondering whether he has a job, the answer is yes. If youre wondering whether spending 242 hours in a movie theater over the last month or so made that job difficult, the answer is also yes. The amount of time that it takes, Ive had to take time off work, I would take long lunch breaks to accommodate watching an entire movie in that particular time frame, said Ruppel. And then just time on the weekends where Im not doing other things. He once saw the film seven times in a single day, preventing boredom by zeroing in on specific details while rewatching it.
Guinness didnt just take his word for it, of course. To be official, I have to have certain pictures taken, like in front of a movie poster, and I need to have two written witness statements saying that I was actually there, he said. So Im trying to think, if anyone wanted to break this, I really dont want to re-break it. Cause this has been pretty tough. Its been a finite amount of time, but I dont think Im going to try this one again.
Captain Marvel is no longer playing at Ruppels preferred movie theater, meaning his record is likely to stand at 116 viewings. The highly anticipated Avengers: Endgame arrives in theaters next week, however, meaning he could feasibly best himself though, at three hours long, that film will be even more difficult to see multiple times.
I’ve seen The Exorcist about 167 TIMES, AND IT KEEPS GETTING FUNNIER EVERY SINGLE TIME I SEE IT!
Hitlary destroyed over 30,000 emails under subpoena. I consider that a more important record.
Legally, she has to marry him now.
Maybe that is what he thinks.
The only difference between them is the sharpness of their tan lines.
Shazam was a much better movie. It had the scariest beginning of any comic book movie as of yet.
I just saw Shazam on Sunday and thought it was great. Yes, the beginning was very dark and at first I thought I was in the wrong part of the theater. And Shazam was actually Captain Marvel, before there was a Captain Marvel under Marvel Comics. There was a huge lawsuit among Detective Comics (DC Comics), the guy that created Superman, and Marvel.
How many of those other works involve her wearing a skin-tight costume?
Get a life.
Imagine what he could have accomplished if he had done something productive with his time.
I guess that offsets my viewing it zero times...
116?! Why? Larson’s “acting” was mediocre at best ... except for the scenes when she was being a smarta**. The story was good and the action kept it going, but she was very deadpan. Not sure why they got her for the part.
“Wisconsin Man” wants to give “Florida Man” a run for his money.
In his spare time he goes to the local seafood restaurant to watch the lobsters swim in the tank.
Um... get a life?! No movie is worth all that time. Let alone a comic book girl power flick.
At least he came out of mama’s basement.
That’s nothing. Captain Marvel went to see Florida Man 125 times so far. /sarc
LOL!
That 90’s grunge outfit with jeans and white NIN shirt looked fine too.
