I would not have taken two hits of early 70s windowpane or orange sunshine

We were stupid and didn’t realize lower dose acid was infinitely more pleasant

Like today kids say they took five hits....I just marvel...uh huh

I had a buddy deceased in a plane craah 1982

He loved to take LSD windowpane and press them together and double dose folks

Till we spiked his beverage one night...he panicked...lol...so we all dosed with him

Tripping alone sucked......major

Tripping especially post peaking was when I listened to thinking or lyric rock

We all know who they are...

Pink Floyd post Atom Heart Mother probably stands out

Atom Heart Mother and earlier was for gnarly peaking tripping rock

But Floyd’s very very first work was simple Blues..

It’s on Napster......it’s amazing ...I’m a King Bee...Double O Bo

It’s really unique

Agree on all but Spyro

Spyro is like Gino Vanelli meets Dixie Dregs meets Aldo Novo to me

No offense

The rest is very very spot on

White Rabbit

For What It’s Worth

Who doesn’t know those lyrics

And Poco...
Was always Rocky Mountian music for me

I’d head out from the Deep South in my little truck for friends in Gunnison or Jackson or Bozeman in 1976 or 77

When I could see purple bumps in the disatance usually after Clayton New Mexico

I’d pop in Poco and turn it up loud...and fire one up

Hit Raton and up to Walsenburg and west to Salida and Gunnison

Man I loved my youth

And I still make those trips with my kids

And same music

No weed though. Alas

He viewed Reagan as staid Ray Gun Zap

I guess

I was anti Reagan at first

I morphed right after he got shot

To be honest South Africa ....a place I knew some....is what really changed me

My friends were all pro Mandela

I was like you just don’t get what this really means
I can recall arguing with peers over it

Reagan got it

I know Zappa didn’t care for the Religious Right, nor did I.

But I always felt Reagan was smart to pay them enough lip service to get them on his side, even if he may not have totally shared in their beliefs.

So much to say about the subject and no time right now. A lot of Freepers have already mentioned many of my favorites.

Right at the top of my list, although there are no lyrics, is Mike Oldfield, especially his live concerts featuring Tubular Bells I, II and III.

For "Intellectual Rock" I cannot think of a better song than Walter Becker's (one-half of Steely Dan) Surf and/or Die, from his album 11 Tracks of Whack.

"In a near random universe there are still certain combinations
Picked out from all other possible ones
Which, when given some time and the just-right circumstances
Not too far from the earth or too close to the sun
They will dance and they'll spin in the embrace of the trade winds
Playing havoc with the hearts and the upturned faces down below
Until the laws of curved spacetime, susponed without warning
Kick back in with a vengeance for the last act of the show
Going too far too fast in that final wing over
As your glider comes tumbling out of the clouds
And you clutch at your chest but the chute never opens
And they find you there tangled in that white nylon shroud..."

Frank Zappa treatment of his musicians.....
//////////////////////////////

All correct and apparently now little known. Great comments.

Saw the Mothers on their first national tour and used to have all the LPs for years and now still have about 80% of the CDs.

Like John McLaughlin with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Zappa had to constantly educate his audience and build on that to keep his creativity unleashed from the constraints of truly becoming an artist “only in it for the money” as the industry tried to force him to be.

One of the rock magazines I get (which??Uncut,Classic Rock,Mojo?) said he is now in danger of being forgotten or overlooked as much of his work is serious and not easily accessible by newcomers. This can’t be allowed to happen.
Can’t we keep him along with Itchycoo Park and Friday on My Mind?

Look at all the great songs that Pete abandoned for “Who’s Next” for the Lifehouse project: I Don’t Even Know Myself, Water, The Relay, Pure and Easy, etc., So many great songs, didn’t even make it onto their albums.

Steve Marriott is another one is was critically underrated. Might be the best front man ever. I think he totally was the inspiration for Robert Plant.

You ever hear “Melancholia”? That one was scrapped in favor of “Tommy”, but it’s just a great song.
