A Chicago alderman believes soft on crime policies by Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx helped embolden hundreds of teens who took part in a massive "wilding" in downtown Chicago Wednesday night.
Chicago police say more than 30 teens were arrested, and it has merchants on the Mag Mile jittery.
Police estimate about 500 teens, spurred on by social media, flooded into the downtown area, many intending to create havoc.
Hundreds of police responded, arresting 31 people on charges ranging from mob action to battery -- most later released to family members.
"If there's no consequences to criminal acts you're going to see an increase in criminal acts, said Alderman Brian Hopkins.

I did read where she said just because they could prosecute doesnt mean they should. So there is that.
will the powers that be, push back against the feral gang types from infesting the nice areas?
Thats doubtful in my view. The formerly safe areas are now outnumbered by the voters in the problem areas. The new Mayor is a True Believer, 5 outright Socialists have seats on the City Council, and the States Attorney Foxx is absolutely complicit.
The dirty little secret is that the gangs are part and parcel of the political system now. The AG Of Illinois just handcuffed the CPD with a ridiculous Consent Decree because racism. Beat cops are being given stand down orders in plain language on unencrypted radio channels.
Local community activists are openly protecting these youths from the cops now. They put themselves between the cops and the marauders and dare them to try and make arrests.

I took the L and exited at Chicago and State to go visit her.
Last weekend, in broad daylight, two teens attacked a security guard at the McDonalds on that very corner. He had to draw his gun to stop the attack. And it was all caught on glorious video. The guard showed incredible restraint by not dropping both of them. Im not sure I could have.
I work not far from there in River North. Believe me I do not go unarmed anywhere these days.
Its unbelievable to me that such an area is seeing this mayhem.
It was entirely predictable. And its being done quite on purpose. Chicago is done. Its only a matter of time before the City and the County will be forced into a Chapter 9 bankruptcy. Thats when the real fun will start.

The sanctuary city policies originated under Mayor Harold Washington who ordered the Chicago Police Department not to cooperate with the INS (now ICE). Agents seeking illegal aliens in police custody had to visit jails and lock-ups to find those who needed to be deported without assistance from local law enforcement.
But referring to them as “teens” has nothing to do with the problem,
ML/NJ
Well shiver me timbers....thats pure raycisssttttt....
Hey, it's perfectly legal here in Jersey too, IF you have government permission (which is almost unattainable). Is that the kind of "legal" of which you speak?
But neighborhood watches be rayciss! Remember St. Skittles?
Is that the kind of “legal” of which you speak?
We have a Shall Issue system here. Take the classes, pay the fee, pass the background check, and in 90 days or so your permit arrives. So its much, much better here than in NJ.
We take what we can get here in the Peoples Republik of Illinois.

Thanks.
No wonder Chicago is becoming a lost cause.
