"All in the Family" and "The Jeffersons" are coming back to TV, live and for one night only.
Woody Harrelson, Marisa Tomei, Jamie Foxx and Wanda Sykes will star in re-creations of episodes from the influential sitcoms born in the 1970s.
Norman Lear, who created "All in the Family" and its spinoff "The Jeffersons," and Jimmy Kimmel are hosting the ABC prime-time special airing next month, the network said Thursday.
Harrelson and Tomei will play Archie and Edith Bunker, with Foxx and Sykes as George and Louise Jefferson. Ellie Kemper, Justina Machado and Will Ferrell also will appear, ABC said, with more stars to be announced.
The original shows starred Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton as the blue-collar Bunkers, and Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford as the upwardly mobile Jeffersons.
People say "these two shows were meant for the '70s and would not work today," Lear said in a statement. "We disagree with them and are here to prove, with two great casts depicting 'All in the Family' and 'The Jeffersons,' the timelessness of human nature."

I really don’t think the average SJW could watch ten minutes of the original shows and survive all their trigger malfunctions. And one of the earlier commenters was right: Archie Bunker was supposed to be an in-your-face HATEFUL bigot, but I suspect that his character resonated because many people DID feel, righteously, that society was crumbling. The middle American audiences commensurated with the Jeffersons’ racial plights when the script had them suffer discrimination, but made no bones that they agreed with Archie in that the Looney Left was taking over the narrative.
So the reboot will make damn sure they piss off middle America this time, and most probably make sure Archie hates Trump in the end, or at least gets his comeuppance once he “checks his privilege” or some crap like that.
I am sure the creative powers at ABC along with Woody Harrelson will do a great job depicting the conservative point of view of Archie. I am 100% confident that it will be fair representation and NOT a foolish extreme strawman.

I still say it can be Costanza and Tomei. Just need to tweak the lyrics a bit:
Boy the way (Don) Ho and Mendes sang.
Songs that made the hit parade.
Guys with cheese we had it made,
Those were the days.
And you knew who you were then,
Girls were girls and bad boys were men,
Mister we could use a Mayor
Like Guiliani again. (Or a man like Steinbrenner again)
Didn’t need no welfare state,
We just did the opposite.
Gee Jon Voights LeBaron ran great.
Those were the days.
Nornan Lear? No thanks. Is Meathead going to bloviate?
Trumps entire presidency has been one massive impeachable offense. America is being held hostage by 20 GOP Senate cult members who stand in the way of ridding US of the most criminally corrupt President in our nations history.— Rob Reiner (@robreiner) April 19, 2019
Ditto.
Not to mention, the folks today have no sense of satire, irony or even a true sense of humor. All in the Family will have no relation to the original. And, the idea of Wanda Sykes, ewww, pfttt, blech
Archie will make his entrance wearing a MAGA hat & carrying a rope & a bottle of bleach.
Sad.
Wanda Sykes? If she weren't a lesbian she would never get hired for anything.
And Norman Lear.... proof that only the good die young.
Yeah that's a deal breaker for me too.
Yeah whatever happened to Lisa Bonet?
It’s curious, when Isabel Sanford was asked why Mike Evans vanished from the show, she became visibly uncomfortable and didn’t want to talk about it. At least he came back to close out the show.
Meghan McQueeg ?
Kat Dennings could fill out the, um, role.
Cosby sandbagged her career after she rebelled and did “Angel Heart” and got knocked up by Lenny Kravitz (”The Jefferson’s” Roxie Roker’s son).
Probably Lena Dunham.
