A Florida fishing boat captain shared video of his latest catch: a 757-pound swordfish that could be a new state record.

Capt. Nick Stanczyk posted a video to YouTube showing scenes from his fishing trip off the coast of Islamorada, in the Florida Keys.

The video shows Stanczyk landing a 757-pound swordfish.

The captain said it took about eight hours to reel the fish in, and it took seven people to haul the massive fish off the boat.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission lists the state record for a swordfish at 612 pounds, meaning Stanczyk's catch might be a new record.

I have been fishing with Nick since he was four years old. He's in his 30’s now and weighs about 140 lbs. soaking wet.I don't know how they ever got that fish in the boat.took eight hours to catch.Monday I road to Miami Beach with his father who started the daytime swordfishing about 10-12 years ago. We worked together on the tackle and I built him a bunch of rods for swordfishing.
I have been complaining for a week now that this is a catch of a lifetime and the media acts like it never happened while Tiger Woods a three time loser in marriage, boozer et all gets all the PR.Not fair.
Anyway word is swordfish get to be over 1,000 lbs. I can't wait for someone to catch a grander.

We usually fish south of Islmoarada sometimes as far south as marathon and then drift back in the Gulfstream in deep water over 1,000 feet.

Nick has a bunch of spots. He’s been doing this for years now and has all of his father and his uncle scotts spots as well. His boat is the B&M and his father and uncle’s boat is the Catch 22. His father Richard had over 500 swordfish when he was targeting them both at night and in the day.
The Stanczyk family owns Bud N’ Marys marina in Islamorada and have for many years.
Richard and I did a radio show for five years together.

That often happens. Its a miracle they caught the fish and a bigger miracle they got it on board. These things can be 15 feet long. Richard told me the girth was 73” it was 6 feet around.

It’s hard to gear up for swordfish down here. Many of the fish are under 100 lbs. Minimum legal size is around a 50 lb. fish to be legal. You never know when you get a strike if its 50 lbs. or 500 so gearing up is always a toss up.We use anywhere from 65 lb. braid to 100 or even heavier.Problem is with 100 lb.sbraid it takes a lot of weight to hole bottom in water over 1,500 feet deep, sometimes over 10 lbs. depending on how strong the Gulfstream is moving.

Only a few people can take these fish standing up.I built a rod for Roland Martin a few years ago and he caught several fish the next day up to 250 lbs. but it takes it all out of you real quick in the heat ,the depth and how hard these fish fight.
One of the best of the best is George Poveromo he caught one over 200 lbs. on standup but its really tough to do.He did it on film and was part of his TV series.Hes the reel deal.

Great!

I figured you did, and would have some great stories!

I was even hoping he caught it on one of your rods.

At Nick’s level he has tackle manufacturers basically giving stuff to him to field test for them. He really doesn’t have to buy too much stuff any more.We aren’t big enough to do that.
Over the years the entire family has bought many rods from us so I’m not complaining. Besides they are all huge successes in many areas of life.

I have been complaining for a week now that this is a catch of a lifetime and the media acts like it never happened while Tiger Woods a three time loser in marriage, boozer et all gets all the PR.Not fair.

There are several reasons for this:

1. Rick is the wrong color.

2. Rick isn't chasing, hitting, throwing or otherwise manipulating a ball of any sort.

3. Rick participated in the death of an animal, though not a 'cute and fuzzy' animal, an animal, nonetheless.

4. Rick is not a 'celebutard'.

5. Rick's actions demonstrate MAN OVER NATURE..................
