Lori Loughlin pleads not guilty in college admissions scam
It turns out that trusting the word of a con artist might not always be the best choice. Following Lori Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli's decision to plead not guilty to the charges facing them in connection to the college admissions scandal on Monday, a source close to the 54-year-old actress tells ET that she feels like those who orchestrated the scheme misled her about the severity of her involvement. "[Lori and her husband] claim they were under the impression they might be breaking rules, but not laws," the source says. "They feel they were manipulated by those involved and are planning that as part of their defense." "They realize how serious the charges are, but feel that once the judge hears their story he will see they had no bad intentions," the source adds.

I doubt that ! The university probably knew what it was getting. Its a private school and it had a “private entry fee”. I will agree the other applicants were defrauded but mostly because the bought into the scam of “institutional elitism”. The real damage is the university’s brand.
This even allowed the peaking under the hood, instead of a Rolls-Royce engine its a Yugo!
So let me get this straight, you spent roughly 500k or so in bribes to get your daughters into USC under false pretenses, but you don’t feel you broke any laws... so that means you aren’t guilty?

The reality is, that of all these kids that got in on bribes and lies and crimes... as far as we know NOT A SINGLE ONE FLUSHED OUT!!! So what does that tell you? It tells you these schools are HARDLY ELITE! If they cheated to get in, but then weren’t flushed out because they couldn’t handle the work, then it tells you the entrance process is not there to ensure that people won’t get in that can’t handle the work, and these universities are HARDLY the best and the brightest.
At least, until they turn 54... :)

In 40 some years of science & engineering work I’ve seen little difference in graduates of the elite schools & the cow colleges (state land grant schools!). If there are differences/problems its the attitudes of the elite graduates causing the trouble. And no don’t get me wrong, not all the graduate of the elite schools were like that. The problem children were very few in number but just enough to make one pause.
They knew. Prob did not think about the severe consequences.
I agree. I now only hire engineers from “cow colleges” - mostly my local one. Less turmoil and BS involved. At one point in my career it was Stanford or Berkeley or not at all.

I don’t know if it’s hubris, bad legal advice, or both, but the Full House star and her husband are providing a textbook illustration of how NOT to handle legal troubles with the feds. They might see if Felicity Huffman’s lawyer is willing to take on more clients. Ms. Huffman is getting sound advice; she has already accepted a deal for lesser charges and may spend only a few weeks in jail. Loughlin and her husband are reportedly looking at years in prison.
Her husband gave to candidates from both parties; he was highlighted in the initial reporting b/c as the only defendant who gave to Trump.
As white-collar defense specialists warn, their hardest issue is getting their clients to accept that they might have infringed the criminal law enough to do time. I can easily imagine Lori Loughlin digging in her heels. Jail and prison are for little people without cash and celebrity status.
If Jussie Smollet and the Clintons got a pass, these two should get a pass. The hubby is apparently a Trump supporter. She has no prior record. And we all know that college admissions in this country is all corrupted anyway.
Studies have shown time and again that degrees from these elite colleges on average do not earn those with them more than those who go to other schools.... Those schools are there for the connections etc for the “right” kind of people.
That’s it... Like the Private Grade School that charges 40k a year tuition.. its not a 40k per year educations, its 40k to make sure your kids don’t have to mix with the riff raff.
