An adult man and a baby girl were reportedly shot while the man was changing the childs diaper inside a vehicle parked outside a Chuck E. Cheese on Saturday in Alabama.
Vestavia Hills Police said the gun was hidden inside the diaper bag and it accidentally went off, hitting the man in the chest and the child in the leg.
Lt. Michael Keller told AL.com that they believe the man was searching for something in the diaper bag when he came in contact with the weapon inside and it fired. A single bullet discharged, hitting him in the chest and then striking the girl.

You dont expect anyone would bring a gun around where kids would be. It just doesnt make any sense, John Gerrard, who was at the Chuck E. Cheese at the time of the shooting with his 2-year-old daughter and wife, told WBRC.

We have a 380 that we use for self-defense. It has no safety so we just don’t keep One in the Chamber.
Competing with Waffle House for loony events.
Why would you not carry a firearm without a round chambered? You might as well carry a rock in your pocket.
Glock or similar "safety" equipped pistol.
Probably (obviously) not in a holster.
None of mine have. maybe I'm just lucky.
or careful
Cute. When my kids were that age they handled my lighter firearms. I have pictures I dont post them ever. The safety lessons I taught them at that time stuck with my kids for 35+ years now.
Thanks for the local context. Always appreciated.
Whenever I’m truly bored, “Chuck E. Cheese Fights” on youtube provide relief.
Wouldn’t go there on a dare. Besides, pizza is too easy to make at home, and I can add onions & anchovies without getting dirty looks. But no pineapple.
When I carry my .380 (Ruger LCP,) it has one in the chamber, plus a full magazine, and a second full magazine in a carrier on my belt. Ditto when I carry my 9mm Glock 26.
When I'm not wearing them, they are in holsters in a drawer, but nothing in the chamber.
If George Zimmerman carried his Kel Tec PF9 without one in the chamber, we never would have heard abut Trayvon Martin, because George Zimmerman never would have been able to shoot Trayvon.
If the gun don’t kill ya..
The Chuck E Cheese will.
Glocks do not discharge accidentally.
If you have a loaded firearm in a diaper bag lying flat on the bottom, and are walking in crowded areas you are constantly sweeping people. (Even if you feel the gun is unloaded you are still sweeping people. RULE :1. It is always loaded.
Jeff Coopers Rules of Gun Safery
RULE I: ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
RULE II: NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO DESTROY
RULE III: KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
RULE IV: BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET
Twenty years ago a guy left his gun in the restroom at a Chuck E Cheese here in town. Some kid found it and took it into the restaurant, where it was eventually found by a young child in the ball pit.
Chuck E does not have s stellar track record when it comes to firearms safety.
” If George Zimmerman carried his Kel Tec PF9 without one in the chamber, we never would have heard abut Trayvon Martin, because George Zimmerman never would have been able to shoot Trayvon.”
Judging only by what I know of the events, it seems that Zimmerman should have drawn his weapon and chambered a round before the thug jumped him, even if he normally carried with an empty chamber.

Frequently asked question...
“Why do you find it necessary to carry loaded”
Answer:
“I have no need to carry a paperweight around”
Officer, I would love to see your reaction when you get assigned to the street and the SGT tells ALL that your weapons must be UNLOADED - for the safety of the children etc etc
Almost as idiotic as the National Guardsmen assigned Airport Duty after 9/11 with empty weapons.
If nothing else, with a weapon slung over their shoulder and in uniform, the people they would be there for would just consider them to be a target
I follow those rules. Maybe that’s why I’ve never had an accidental discharge.
The night they first asked us to take them to Applebees instead was one of the happiest nights of my life.
BS story...........
Same takeaway I arrived at too.
“How does a gun discharge accidentally?”
One must “accidentally” pull the trigger.
