Rhys stars as Perry Mason "at a time in his life when he is living check-to-check as a low-rent private investigator. Mason is haunted by his wartime experiences in France and is suffering the effects of a broken marriage...." Here's the official logline for the series: 1932, Los Angeles. While the rest of the country recovers from the Great Depression, this city is booming! Oil! Olympic Games! Talking Pictures! Evangelical Fervor!

Your friend sounds frustrated. By any chance, was his name Hamilton Burger?

It’s not Perry Mason. They licensed the name. That’s all.
Yep. Count on it. You can also be sure each episode will be crammed with the usual PC nonsense -- "white supremacists" and Ku Kluxers menacing noble, long-suffering "people of color," evil businessmen, gutsy grrrls with the strength of ten men, etc. Incidentally, the Blues Brothers did a version of the Perry Mason theme that was fabulous. They even added lyrics: "Della is the secretary / Drake sits on her desk, with Perry."

We watched Perry Mason as kids. We also read MAD Magazine back then. I still remember a parody they did on the show. Perry Mason was Perry Mason Mint. Mason Mints were a large, round chocolate covered creamy mint, wrapped in a foil package, and sold for 5 cents. They don’t make them anymore. Hamilton Burger was Hamilton Burgerbits, named after the dog food. From Wikipedia: “A Perry Mason parody titled “The Night That Perry Masonmint Lost a Case” appeared in the July 1959 issue (#48) of Mad magazine.”

I don’t know much about his family, but the name certainly is held by many actors.

I remember him from The Americans, where he plays a Russian spy (oooo, I used the s word) who disguises himself In many undercover situations and each time he not only looks different, but he assumes a whole new aura.

Pretty good. I certainly hope with all the garbage put together that passes for entertainment, this may be worth seeing.

Ha, true!

Reminds me of a story my brother told me he had witnessed as an officer of the court about a Mexican who was being arraigned one day on a double murder charge. The prosecutor was going through the counts and the defendant, who didn’t understand much English, was getting visibly upset as he listened to the lengthy recitation. By the time the prosecutor had gone through several additional counts he was being charged with, he jumped to his feet and shouted “Dos! Dos! I only kill two!” The courtroom was stunned and then the prosecutor says, “I rest my case.”

Rhys is a good actor judging from The Americans.

Yabbut, I still wish he and whatshername got blown away at the end. Seeing them get away after the crap they pulled just chapped my hide.

Now until FX or wome other comes up with another decent series. "Deadwood", "Justified", "The Americans"

Only things that had me watching TV at all.................

Raymond Burr was a faggie. He bequeathed his entire estate to his boytoy and excluded all his relatives including a sister, nieces, and nephews.

Natalie Wood was his unmarried beard for some time.

"The Flintstones’s did a parody too."

We used to watch The Flintsones. I'm sure I watched it when it aired.

And Cleo Pot Roast in ye old Mad Magazine. A parody of the then very hot (much talked about) movie Cleopatra with Liz Taylor and Richard Burton.

I wish I kept my issue. Must be worth a hundred thousand by now.

LOL! MAD’s writers were funner than $hit. My older sister would buy every issue as soon as it came out, and it would be passed around to the rest of us. There was a soda shop a couple of blocks away from our house, and they sold all sorts of magazines. MAD was one of them. I sure wish we hung on to them all, but who knew back then how valuable some of these comics, and magazines would be one day.
