Rhys stars as Perry Mason "at a time in his life when he is living check-to-check as a low-rent private investigator. Mason is haunted by his wartime experiences in France and is suffering the effects of a broken marriage...." Here's the official logline for the series: 1932, Los Angeles. While the rest of the country recovers from the Great Depression, this city is booming! Oil! Olympic Games! Talking Pictures! Evangelical Fervor!

I am not optimistic about the program and the concept I am reading about in this link.
There is only one Perry Mason.
The short lived New Adventures Of Perry Mason wasn’t that great either.
One of the best series ever. I have seen them all but now that I think about it, there never was much info on Mason’s early life tho they describe him as a veteran several times.
I have read a couple of articles by Erle Stanley Gardner in outdoor magazines but never read one of the books.
I suspect a great deal of the show’s success was the actors. Every one of them was good.
That's for sure. The real Perry and Della are not amused.
Monte Markham was a pale imitation but I still like the guy on screen.
A lawyer friend of ours was over once and PM was on.
All I heard was no, no, no during the courtroom scenes.
It’s made up not Perry Mason.
They licensed the name.
That’s all.
It’s not Erle Stanley Gardner. Completely made up stuff.
Not Perry Mason.
F. Lee Bailey commented on the show, He said Mason’s courtroom manner was excellent but he had never seen a real case where the guilty jumps up in court and confesses.
If anyone can gain the respect of those who are strict Raymond Burr fans, it would be Matthew Rhys.
There are not too many really good actors around, but I, who was a fan of Burr, say that Matthew will do a better job as Perry.
Rhys is a good actor judging from The Americans.
I liked her TV series. But, my god,
it must have worn her out to be playing every character!
She was great on Orphan Black.
I have been a fan of Raymond Burr myself.
Ironside is another series no one else could have done.
If only the other 4 seasons would be released. Those had Elizabeth Baur.
You can’t remake a classic. This might be popular with those unfamiliar with the original...but that’s it.
“Matthew Rhys.”
Rhys is a big UK acting family. It must be in their blood.
I agree with you. Also, this sounds a bit like the flashback theme of Godfather II to the Don’s early life. I dunno ... remains to be seen.
I still record Perry Mason episodes twice daily on METV.
I love watching the episodes that I’ve seen several times!
By the time the episodes rotate from September 21, 1957 to May 22, 1966, I manage to forget the majority of the plots!
Dont turn your back on Raymond Burr! Hell pinch your ass.
