I fly a lot for business, sometimes globally.
1. Get pre-check
2. Understand what clothing and accessories set off even the pre-check body scans (had to STOP wearing my fave cowboy boots)
3. Get Global Entry (45 seconds to clear US customs, yep, really)
4. Enroll in CLEAR.
5. Don’t be a noob - observe the process — be a grey man in the line.
Following those 5 rules, the TSA/ Customs is never an issue for me. Ever.
CLEAR doesn’t have enough locations yet. They are still in Terminal E here at DFW which does me no good at all.
I had clear and never used it for 3 years so I let it lapse.
No question if you used GE even ONCE it pays for itself.
Note: my travel wardrobe includes plastic belts so I don’t set off the metal detector nor have to take them off for airports that either don’t have Pre Check or has it shut down all the time (yes, Newark and DCA I am talking about you).

Being serious for a moment, those are exactly the same things I do. “Be a gray man.” Works great. Also works great if you’re a CCW, believe me.
Yeah, but it’s still possible to get shunted off to agricultural inspection, which totally sucks. My last flight home from Asia, I was behind a family of 11. Each of them (including the young children) had two 50 lb boxes of food from Vietnam including several coolers of raw fish, and it took me as long to wait to put my luggage containing pre-packaged chocolates on the belt as it usually takes to get through regular customs.
Great advice.
