A weather whiplash is predicted to hit people in the Rockies and Plains this week, as conditions go from balmy to blizzard overnight. The high is predicted to be around 80 degrees in Denver and other cities Tuesday but within 24 hours, blizzard conditions are forecast, the National Weather Service says.
"Warm today. Snow tomorrow," says the NWS office in Denver and Boulder, Colo., predicting temperatures that could hit record highs Tuesday followed by rain turning to snow, in a blast of cold air that will ride winds of 40-60 mph on Wednesday.
For many central U.S. residents, the week began with warnings of a possible winter storm. But predictions now call for an April blizzard that could bring whiteout conditions. And because of the intense drop in pressure, the system could develop into the region's second bomb cyclone in less than a month.

They used the term Polar Vortex until it backfired on them .... how can you claim a polar vortex of freezing cold when the polar bears are dying of heat exhaustion, Eskimos are drinking mixed drinks without ice cubes, penguins have become extinct on the North Pole because all the ice has melted, etc.?
60 degrees and dry at the mansion west of Denver, but I am sure it will change. Colorado is always like that.
Sheeez last year it was “polar vortex”, this year it’s “bomb cyclone”. Here in Colorado we call it “spring”. DOH!
Meh, it is called april in Colorado..
“What do they call it if you’re at the airport? Or do they whisper it?”
Now that there was funny!
I got the joke, I was born and raised here too. Basically any kind of weather can happen any time of year. I remember working in a T-shirt in Estes on gorgeous 60+ days in Jan. in the ‘80s.
Every month can be characterized by what is typical but the exact opposite extreme of that typical can happen in any month. Within some limits. Keeps things exciting here doesn’t it?
That is great. “Cli-Fi”. They could run all the end of the world disaster movies as documentaries, and run the whacko cast commentaries about how serious it all was.
Or where i am, Wisconsin weather.
Oh indeed. All four seasons in any given day
Worst blizzard I’ve experienced was the first week of April not far from Denver. Nearly 2 feet of snow, next week was in the 60s. This was in the 1970s...
When I was a cadet at USAFA, I remember some of our biggest snow storms were in May. It’s just Colorado.
In Chicago, the one week between winter and summer is called spring.
Mike Nelson says this one doesn't meet the criteria for a 'bomb cyclone', so I guess it will just be a plain ol' blizzard.
Yep - that's normal for Colorado.
the high here today was 81; tomorrow (wednesday) night will be 26 with up to 7 inches of snow ...
“Ive lived in Denver since 1978. This is a typical spring pattern here; unusually warm one day and snowstorm the next. Only thing new here is calling it a bomb cyclone every time it snows to scare the global warming followers.”
yep.
“It snows on Colorado through at least June. Then it picks up again in July”
yeah, the old joke here is that Colorado has three seasons: July, August and Winter ...
