A little-known scientific process is being hailed as the new way to lose weight, look younger and prolong life.
Autophagy is a natural regeneration process that occurs at a cellular level in the body, reducing the likelihood of contracting some diseases as well as prolonging lifespan.
In 2016, Japanese scientist Yoshinori Ohsumi won the Nobel Prize for his discoveries into the mechanisms of autophagy. These have led to a better understanding of diseases such as Parkinson's and dementia.

What is autophagy?

OMAD (One Meal A Day) for > 20 years
Yup! You have to weather the pangs, at first. After years of doing this, it's sooo much easier.
I only really think of food about an hour before I eat that one time.
I guess my one indulgence is Kit-Kat or Twix, at the end of my meals.
Exactly. And not just the Bible, it was baked into Christian culture since time immemorial.
During Lent, from Ash Wednesday to Easter, every day except Sunday, Western Europeans traditionally ate:
no meat
no eggs
one full meal a day
This was also the fast before major feast days (e.g. Christmas Eve), and four times a year during the Ember Days.
Today’s “fasts” are so wimpy, especially so because we are not doing the tough manual labor that our ancestors would have done.
I’ve tried the warrior’s diet which is one meal per day, and watch my carbs, especially pasta for me. It works but I also tend to fall off... so you have to climb back on.
Thank you. I’ll check that out.
Thanks for the extremely concise testimony. I’ve been exploring this and trying to figure out how to practically incorporate it into my life.
I dropped from 320 to 245 using Keto, which is great. Of late I started doing the ‘no eating after 6 or before 10’ thing. I’m managing it pretty well so far.
Just got back from a cruise. Strayed from the diet for the tropical drinks. Not sorry I did it.
I did notice, going back to when I was in grad school in the 1970's, that fasting was a good way to keep the mind clear
That is my experience as well. A few times a year I have to do some public speaking around the country. It is 6 hours of me yakkity yakking on my feet, usually in a large conference room. As much as I enjoy it, it is physically exhausting. I discovered that if I eat nothing except a light meal before bed each day of my lecture, I am much more refreshed, relaxed and clear headed (doesn't help the sore old feet though!).
Then on my last night before returning home, I find a great restaurant and indulge in two martinis and a steak!
If I ever have a need for a big celebration, I may have a couple myself. And a steak (Pittsburgh rare, please).
....Ive essentially cured my diabetes (no meds) and Ive lost 25 pounds....
Congrats!!

I am going to share this vid with a few friends/family members, as well as other links on this thread.
BTW, I was interested to hear what the docs are saying about fasting/autophagy and how it reduces loose skin.
Yeah. I have the loose skin issue.
How presumptuous.
How do you know their mental state?
Huh.
Reading the title, I thought autophagy meant eating cars.
I wondered how they could mentally cope with hunger the way they are forced to. If that offends you, climb back under your rock.
Check out what the autophagy docs have to say about how to solve the problem. It may just take time.
Beats geophagy
Marked.
Thanks for posting this thread.
Re-ping to LJ.
