Authorities are looking for whoever shot and killed a female bald eagle found late last month in southeastern Arkansas.
The body of the protected bird, the national symbol of the US, was found in Drew County on March 28, according to the US Fish and Wildlife Service and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission
The AGFC said the bird's body was found near a nest and they believe she was tending to it at the time of her death. The eagle was transferred to Little Rock Zoo, where it was determined she died of a gunshot wound.
Bald eagles were removed from the US' list of endangered and threatened species in 2007 but remain protected under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act and the Lacey Act. Under the MBTA , anyone harming one of the regal birds could face up to two years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Wouldn’t it be nice if they spent that much energy on at least one of the 4,000 unborn babies killed each day in this country?

Two suspicious rabbits were seen in the area shortly before, making threats.

Hey I have a clue for them. Try investigating the piles of dead raptors laying at the bases of wind turbines.

Mmmm...
Roast eagle.
With all the trimmings.

Mayor: What do you mean you cooked the turkey, Charlie?
Charlie: Well, I cooked the turkey, thats all.
Mayor: You put our national bird in the oven. Is that correct?
Charlie: Yeah, well I, uh
Mayor: And all of us had our mouths set for roast eagle with all the trimmings.
Charlie: Yeah, well I, uh
Mayor: You did a thing like that?
Charlie: Well, the two birds were lying there side by side.
Mayor: The *turkey* was for the centerpiece, Charlie, I mean
Charlie: Well, they looked so much alike that I, uh
Mayor: Well, we blew it now. Theyre all sitting down at the tables out there.
Charlie: Yeah, yeah.
Mayor:
starting on their little nut cups already. Just have to switch the birds, thats all.
Charlie: Yeah, well
Mayor: Serve them turkey instead of eagle. But its kinda scrawny-lookin, isnt it?
Charlie: Yeah, well I thought Id stuff some old bread in it and make it look a little fatter.
Mayor: You do that, OK?

My guess is the interest level on the part of CNN would diminish by an order of magnitude if the eagle had been found, mangled, at the foot of a wind turbine.

A teenager with a new shotgun or rifle... I was thinking of a passionate kitty owner who lives along the river and doesn't appreciate any kind of attack on his little buddies, land, water or air.
I don't know any one like that, of course. All the kitties I know fell out my driftboat long ago. Same place the guns went down!

Bingo! My thought exactly.

Bald Eagles are primarily fishing birds.
The population is fully recovered along the Arkansas and Cimarron rivers.
I have never seen them eat anything other than fish within that range.
