No. 3-seeded Texas Tech upset the top-seeded Michigan State Spartans, 61-51, to earn a shot at playing Virginia for the crown in mens college basketball.
In Lubbock, a huge crowd soon gathered at the Texas Tech campus to celebrate the Red Raiders win.
Ive never seen anything like this in Lubbock, Tim Hays, a senior at Texas Tech, told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal. Ive been to other rallies like this, but nothing compares to the electricity here.
Witnesses reported seeing fires set ablaze, with at least one car being flipped over, KCBD-TV of Lubbock reported.
Other reports said as many as four cars were flipped.
Lubbock police many seen wearing riot gear and wielding batons -- eventually used tear gas to try and convince people to leave the area, the station reported.

This is the one instance where SJWs have a point. These riots are treated completely different than riots with other objectives.
It was 1977 and I worked at a 7-11 in Austin near the University of Texas campus. The team had come off a 5-5-1 season the year before and not much was expected even after they’d demolished the first three opponents on their schedule.
The Longhorns then defeated heavily-favored Oklahoma and there was a spontaneous celebration in the streets around campus with much car-honking and consumption of alcohol. Back at 7-11, my co-worker and I had to alternate restocking the beer shelves because so much of it was getting sold.
The next week, Texas edged Arkansas and the celebration scene repeated itself. The following week, they won and Michigan lost pushing Texas up to #1. Another street party was underway.
By now, the party would begin on Thursdays and would not subside until Sunday. It was bedlam. There were many arrests for drunk and disorderlies. College kids filled with beer would relieve themselves in front yards.
The regular season kept Texas at #1 and the party scene repeated until after they beat Texas A&M on Thanksgiving. Assessing the field, I said Texas had a good chance to beat any team in the country except Notre Dame. Their Cotton Bowl opponent turned out to be #5 Notre Dame.
The Irish clobbered Texas, 38-10, and the mayhem stopped.
I actually hope Texas Tech wins Monday night. They certainly have little else to celebrate in that little cow town.
Flipping idiots.
Rioting over a stick and ball game makes about as much sense as voting demonicrat, although both are done all over the world.
“Rioting over a stick and ball game”
I don’t think I want to play basketball with you. Not if you’re carrying a stick.
Crazy. And BTW, Auburn got screwed.
the top-seeded Michigan State Spartans
State was ranked 2, Tech 3.
Tech beat State in a very hard fought game. Both teams really good. Tech was better.
Also, the fans got too carried away with flipping cars. Just plain stupid. That’s what you get mixing beer and college kids. Hopefully Monday night they’ll have better behavior.

Yeah really screwed.
What would have been fair to both teams would to have declared a tie and play OT.
Amazing, they aint won nuthin yet.
Hey tech wait till you win the big prize before you have a real riot!
Good win yesterday tho red Raiders
Sure seems like Virginia stole it from Auburn tho
Now this is why Michigan State should have won, just sayin.
I wonder how many participants were actual students. Lubbock is a big town.
“Witnesses reported seeing fires set ablaze”
That sounds dangerous. A person could get burned trying to set an already existing fire ablaze.
