OpenAI has produced a "text generator" that can automatically create vast quantities of very believable fake news. You give it a basic topic and it uses its vast Internet knowledge base to construct sentences consistent in form and general meaning with what's already out there.
When WIRED typed in the phrase Hillary Clinton and George Soros, OpenAIs system wrote the following:...are a perfect match, and their agenda appears to be to create a political movement where Soros and his political machine and Clinton are two of the only major players. This is the first time Soros and Clinton have been caught on tape directly colluding in promoting the same false narrative. One of the key revelations in the leaked audio was Clinton's admission to a Russian banker that she knew about the Uranium One deal before it was approved by Congress. Clinton was shown sharing the same talking points that were originally drafted by a Fusion GPS contractor hired by an anti-Trump Republican donor. The leaked audio is the clearest evidence yet that the Clinton campaign and the Hillary Foundation colluded with Fusion GPS to manufacture propaganda against President Trump.
I guess fake news is in the eye of the beholder. This looks like real information to me! The OpenAI knowledge base must have gathered enough "right wing" content to come up with a story that's basically true.
Here's more information from the OpenAI web site.
There are several GLARING errors in that paragraph that signal “fake news”.
In other words, on the internet nobody knows you’re Joe Isuzu.
Or, given Googhoul’s and Faecesbooks’ known and stated proclivities, nobody knows you’re Winston Smith (hello, 1984!) either.
I wonder if there is/was a less capable version that had been running at some point. If you really pay close attention to details in stories it almost seems that whomever wrote the matrix cant help but to rub it in our faces. Dr Zwiebel doing odor research, Nguyen at Rice found grains, other stories, its like someone knows these things go together somehow but goes about linking them either without understanding what is really said or knows full well that theres a joke there and assumes we will never get it.
