I have two cars at present - a 1937 Chevy pickup and a 1969 Mustang Mach 1. They more than adequately provide all the functionality and driving pleasure I could ever want.

Others can keep their toyshops on wheels.

“tis all a matter of taste...”

I would like to see auto makers go back and introduce cars without electronics again, and include a do-it-yourself kit for repairs. Such a car would sell for under $5,000 and help out low-income workers.

I would like to see window cranks return. This business of having to have the ignition on just to roll a window up or down is ridiculous. I think there is a market for cars that provide a more "pure" experience, kind of like British sports cars from the 1960s. Just pure fun without all the techno-BS. Just include enough modern tech to make them reliable and safe, but don't let it interfere with the experience.

Beautiful car. The closest I ever came was a ‘59 Austin Healy 100-6.

7 cars here, not a one with a screen.

Long ago, I had a power, drivers window go down and stay down, dead of winter and 300 miles from home.

Keep it simple! Yes, I like that.

But having a company car for many years, I became spoiled, especially when not paying for it.

And it is nice to be able to roll down the passenger window easily when stuck in traffic next an old friend.

Was out with a friend whose Ford will park itself!
He has never used the feature!

And if it is high-tech only the dealer can repair it, figure minimum $1,000 for any repair.

A friends new Volvo auto seat positioner quit $1,200, but under warranty. He only keeps them the length of the warranty.

With his wife’s 2016 Mazda CX-5, he can’t figure out how to turn off the radio. “We can turn it down,” he said. “But off is apparently a complex process we haven’t been able to figure out.”

Inside the flat a fruity voice was reading out a list of figures which had something to do with the production of pig-iron. The voice came from an oblong metal plaque like a dulled mirror which formed part of the surface of the right-hand wall. Winston turned a switch and the voice sank somewhat, though the words were still distinguishable. The instrument (the telescreen, it was called) could be dimmed, but there was no way of shutting it off completely.

What I would like to get is a short range GPS jammer. Just something I can turn on in a car and it would then have no idea where it is. I can turn off the GPS on my phone which it constantly complains about and every web site I visit thinks I am in Philadelphia.

From the article...

Car infotainment systems have frequently exasperated Rick Cunnington, a 65-year-old retired engineer in Oro Valley, Ariz. With his wife’s 2016 Mazda CX-5, he can’t figure out how to turn off the radio. “We can turn it down,” he said. “But off is apparently a complex process we haven’t been able to figure out.”

A Mazda spokeswoman said there is no easy way to turn off the infotainment system, including the radio, on older models.

Mr. Cunnington is happier with his most recent purchase, a 2018 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck. Still, he studies his route before he leaves the house so he doesn’t have to rely on the vehicle’s navigation system. “I’ve heard all the stories of the navigation systems routing you to Timbuktu,” he said.

Prius’ are more dangerous than the environment than a gas combustion automobile. Why? The battery. If it takes a hazmat team to clean up an accident that a Prius has been in or a crane and a water bath to put out a fire, then it certainly is not good for the environment. It’s the same concept of an oil pipeline if you think that is bad. The oil does no danger to the environment as it stays inside the pipeline. One other exception, a battery takes thousands of years to decay. The car will be long gone before the battery is.

Always thought this was the irony of whacko environmentalists who think the Prius is better for the environment. Not saying you and your wife are, just making a point that even when it’s green it can be mean.

I totally enjoy the Prius, getting 50+mpg after driving Suburbans is a thrill!

The battery on a Prius is a nothing burger compared to the batteries on a large diesel, hundreds of pounds and thousands of amps! Some use two of them!!!

There are many Prius with a million miles!
Might outlast me!!!

Gostomelsky wanted to be able to identify exactly who was doing the broadcasting, ... and the signals sent by tire pressure monitoring systems. The last one is particularly novel—car tires wirelessly broadcast a unique number to the car telling it if the pressure in the tires is getting low; his device picked up on that transmission, letting him identify particular cars.

Great, something else to jam to stay anonymous. My car is from the last year before radio air pressure gauges were installed.

It amazes me that a new card has to come with a user manual about 500 pages long.

Take out all the lawyer warnings and it's only about 67 pages long.

I had a Chevy K10 that had the covered wagon suspension package.

It would transmit every bump or rut right to my spine.

My car is from the last year before radio air pressure gauges were installed.

Not all of them used RF.

The anti-lock brake system knows if the wheels are turning at the same speed.
Low-pressure tires turn at a different speed from the others.

re. Some years ago a VP of Procurement picked up his new lease car from security and he couldn’t start it, raised all kinds of hell until someone told him he had to step on the brake first then start it.

The CIO at my old employer had his admin call the Lexus dealer to send someone out because he couldn't get his key out of the ignition. Turns out he forgot to move the shift lever to Park.

My little truck has crank windows, but my arms are long enought to reach the other side.
It does have a/c however, tho I’ve used it about five times in fourteen years.
The mileage sucks, but at 101k it’ll prolly last longer than I do . . .

Does that include the Lucus Prince of Darkness electronics? (^;

he can’t figure out how to turn off the radio.

The guy obviously never read "1984". Only senior party officials can turn off their ViewScreens.
