A South Side attorney filed a petition Thursday asking for a special prosecutor to look into whether “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett should be re-charged with staging a hate crime as well as whether Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx or her subordinates interfered with the investigation.
The filing by Saani Mohammed, who until recently was an assistant state’s attorney in Foxx’s office, marked the first formal request that a special prosecutor be appointed since the bombshell decision last week to drop all charges against Smollett.
Saying Foxx’s handling of the case was “plagued with irregularity,” Mohammed’s 10-page petition asked that presiding Criminal Court Judge Leroy Martin Jr. appoint a special prosecutor to investigate whether Foxx “acted to impede the investigation … concealed evidence, and/or intentionally misled the public.”

Hell, lets open up an Office of Special Prosecutor. There are a whole bunch of investigations that could be started.

I am guessing that he (1) has a VERY good idea what goes on there in Foxx’s office and (2) sees this as a great opportunity to make a name for himself.

He’ll be told to back off, or end up in one of ValJar’s Iranian stalags.

I have a faint glimmer of hope here. The FBI in Chicago tosses local politicians into prison with both hands. Two former Illinois Governors are both in prison on corruption charges. One is a Dem, the other a Republican. Although in Illinois it’s almost impossible to tell them apart.
Former Alderman Mel Reynolds did a prison stretch for the same thing Anthony Weiner got pinched for. Jesse Jackson Jr and his wife are serving alternating prison sentences for corruption. Even his old man couldn’t sleaze them out of that one.
Fox violated every known procedure, which are codified into Law in these parts, pulling this little stunt. Since those texts from the Obama folks crossed state lines this could very well become a Federal matter under the wire fraud statutes.
Then there’s the little matter of that phony letter full of white powder Smollet mailed to himself. That’s a very big deal and the USPS takes a very, very dim view of that.
We have some very serious problems here in Chicago. There’s no doubt about that. But there are way too many eyes on this thing for it to just go away.
I’ll say it again. Foxx committed a cardinal sin here. She embarrassed the Mayor and pissed of the entire Chicago Police Department as well as brought negative attention to herself from the Feds. There will be some serious blowback.
It may take a while, but it’s very possible for it to happen.
