ANAHEIM, Calif. - Surveillance cameras captured a mans rant at employees over a taco special at a Mexican restaurant.
KNSD reported that a customer thought a sign outside Palapas Tacos in Anaheim, California, said fish tacos were $1.99 daily. He missed the words at the top of the banner that read, Especial de Viernes. The words mean Friday special in English.
Multiple signs list daily specials, which are advertised with the day of the week in Spanish.
Palapas Tacos owner Juan Del Rio said the man was upset because he was charged full price for the fish tacos. He ordered them on Monday.
He saw the receipt and he saw that it was full price, Del Rio told KNSD. Thats why he gets mad.
KTLA reported that the unidentified customer berated the cashier and yelled at other waiting customers.
Thats (expletive)! It says it in Mexican. Were not in Mexico, were in America, the man says, according to surveillance video. This is America! Not Spanish!

The Spanish notation wasn’t a cultural flourish —it was a central feature of being a customer, there.
I side with the complaining customer 100%.
“Were not in Mexico, were in America,
i didn’t find anything racist in this statement. Stupid white guilt reporter must be slow in the head as usual..
What if on the border we put up a “Turret fires AUTOMATICALLY” in English only..?
Would that be fair..?
All he had to do was say “Nice try, amigo”, then leave the shop, and tacos, behind.
Signs should be in English, since it is in the US. I’d penalize the restaurant for not having signs in English.
Pay up, Gringo.
Thank God for the internet, or we’d
never hear such important news.
OK, I’ve never had fish tacos. What do they put in it, imitation crab meat? Tuna? Is it ground up, or a slab like the McFish?
Rightwing,
Although you can’t tell from the article, this story is about a week old or older. Not your fault for posting it as it is still “making the rounds” on the media outlets as current events.
Makes you wonder why their agenda is to push this relatively minor story for so long. Well, actually, Freepers don’t wonder. It fits the communist narative that they push for the Democrats. It doesn’t cast a positive light on the guy that doesn’t speak Spanish. He must be a Trump guy who hates hardworking “migrants.”
The restaurant owner came to the U. S. when he was 14 and is “in the process” of getting U. S. citizenship. He appears to be in his 30s or 40s.
So, my guess is that his parents bought him in illegally and he might think he’s a Dreamer. But I might be wrong. The reporter failed to get enough information from him to know what his status is.
I’ll disagree with the consensus thus far and side with the owner when it comes to the right to choose the language used on his own restaurant’s menus, but the real issue is that it’s simply a disagreement between one customer and an owner that was caught on tape yet Cox Media Group considers it national news. These local, little stories are made to be much bigger than then they are and used to push an agenda and that’s what actually bothers me.
There’s a sign behind the counter that says it’s the Friday Special, in English. The customer didn’t see it.
I’ve seen mahi mahi a lot, otherwise it is some type of white fleshed fish. I wouldn’t be surprised if it is tilapia in most of the cheaper places now. Sadly I even know a local restaurant that uses tilapia in its fish and chips.
Fish Tacos 1.99
not tacos de pescado...
so i will side with the customer, who only reads the english part...
no habla anything else’
>>>I side with the complaining customer 100%.<<<
I agree. The sign should have been written in English and in Spanish. The Merchants bad.
It doesn’t excuse the customer’s reaction, but he was still ripped off.
An embarrassing idiot strikes again. Just say thanks, I didnt understand.
They would probably have given him the special if he hadnt pitched a fit and put everybodys backs up. Ive seen this happen in Chinese restaurants, where they have posted their specials policy in English but its not very clear.
Thanks. I didn’t care for tilapia the two times I tried it.

Every day we get customers (who) sometimes dont understand the specials
Fix yo signs!!!
That does make adifference.
