CAPITOL HILL: More than a week after the Air Force halted Boeings deliveries of KC-46 tankers, Congress and the public learned of the latest shutdown forced by the discovery of more Foreign Object Debris in finished planes.
This time, outgoing Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson told the chairman of the House Armed Services seapower and power projection subcommittee, that: We actually stopped again the acceptance of KC-46s again after Foreign Object Debris was found in closed compartments.
Rep. Joe Courtney may have been briefed before the hearing began since he asked Wilson for an update on the FOD issue, citing this second discovery. Also, he did not appear surprised at Wilsons answer

So, how would you feel flying in an aircraft while trying to identify a sound you cannot locate?
Is it a loose screw, a loose panel, or is the wing about to fall off?
Is your seat/seat belt attaching bolt/nut loose?
Is the/an engine about to drop? or maybe one of the wings?
I bet you would tear that aircraft apart trying to find the rattle caused by a loose part or piece of sharp edged scrap metal rubbing on an essential wire or cable running through the “closed compartments” of the air frame.
Did they find any wooden shoes?
This stock market doesn’t seem to be too concerned about this matter...yet.
I fondly remember FOD walks on the ramp back in the USN.
That has to be a part of the routine. Which means, those who did the final inspection/walk through should be the first to be scrutinized and debriefed.
It is normal for them and they have always gotten away with it before.
I did field engineering work on boilers and power plants for five years. We never buttoned anything up until we knew it was all shipshape. We especially accounted for all personnel.
FOD actually stands for Foreign Object Damage
FOR is foreign object debris.
Nothing beats a diverse workforce...
Yup, build them in Free State S.C. and a better product will be built with better quality control.
Don’t exactly know what FOR is but,
in any case FOD is Foreign Object Damage, so you don’t know what you are talking about.
They found my staple gun!
Free toy with every purchase!!
Well that was not the definition in the service. A FODed engine was a Foreign Object Damaged engine since FOREVER but I guess you can have your own definition (curious, in what capacity did you work for Boeing, office somewhere?)
Why don’t these have fuel saving winglets?
isn't that rainbow fuel line cute...
Having served in the USAF on the flight line and as an airline employee you can be sure I know of which I speak.
Your arrogance is off-putting lad.
From the web:
“Safety on the runway is expected to improve with the installation of advanced automated technology that will see potential dangers even at night at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The Port of Seattle is completing reconstruction of the center runway (16C/34C) which will also include making Sea-Tac only the second airport in the country to have a Foreign Object Debris (FOD) detection system and the first in the world to integrate detection of wildlife hazards into the system.”
So you say, i.e. we can be sure of no such thing. You’re not the only one who’s served/been employed in those positions.
Re: arrogance, yours is certainly unjustified.
