I would LOVE to know who the “owner” is in this story....
Any guesses???
My brother pays the captain of his boat a nice six figure income.
Delivering yachts isn’t so bad.
Delivering owners is heck of a way to make money. I wouldn’t do it.
Interesting story. But the trouble with you Americans is....
Why didn’t he tell the owner to fly down, and find a crewman for the rest of the trip.
Delivering yachts is all good, until you get put on a crew with alcoholics and nut jobs. Google The Sinking of the Trashman.
Leaving Maine for Bermuda, this is the second best time of year. If you leave much past June you are in hurricane season. The only thing worse than a snowy nor'easter is a cat 1(-5). The delivery skipper should have checked the tanks and the guys that writes the checks are usually @!*$. Furthermore, I would have wanted a third person for an offshore delivery in late fall.
My bro bought a really big boat, 48 foot, with sails and a motor, in Frisco and had to hire a crew to move it to San Diego.
You need some kind of license to drive one of these?
The problem with you Americans is you dont know how to pour a beer.
Lol....I wish it really was just that
Seems to me the Captain was a mite sensitive the whole trip
Or maybe he wasnt being paid enough to put up with it
Its rare for an owner to accompany the boat on transit to vacay spots
Usually owners just lounge aboard at harbor in south of France or Caribbean and day sail maybe at most
Plus Id want 2-3 crew to deliver a sloop from Maine to Bermuda in winter
For weather beatdowns
If owner was a real sailor hed have been captain and needed crew instead of Vice versa
If hed hugged USA east coastline to nagshead thats 1500 miles from Buzzard bay MA
weeks sail more or less
Walked out. And that is why he lived to tell the story.
When I was in high screwl I worked at a marina. I saw a lot of stupidity and a hell of a lot more money than good sense.
