Some years ago I was working night shift on March 31st. I worked on a small nursing unit in a hospital; we had a small staff.

Our head nurse usually came in early, before the rest of day shift arrived.

So, I sat there and wrote out a letter of resignation, for every single member of the staff. Everybody had a somewhat plausible-sounding reason for resigning, and of course everyone was resigning effective immediately.

I gave him the letter when he came in. He sat there and read it, looking more and more alarmed. About halfway through it dawned on him that it was April 1st. He about collapsed in relief.

He later shared the letter with the rest of the staff, everyone got a kick out of it.

I read the Sid Finch story and fell for it. Greatest gag ever for a sports nut. Unfortunately after 40 years of subscribing to Sports Illustrated their left leaning politics made me drop them. To this day I won’t read them.

You were smarter than me. I fell for it.

For sinks that have the old-style sprayer hoses, it’s always fun to tape the lever down with electrical tape and point the spray head where someone will stand to turn on the faucet. I never get tired of that one. Did it at the company training center just a couple of months ago.

I heard about that one for the first time last year. What an awesome gag.

I once staged a murder scene at my mom’s house when she was gone for the weekend.

The crime scene tape and body outline on the living room carpet gave her quite the shock.

About 35 years ago, David Newman a Detroit talk show host had an hour long interview with a man from the US Government Office of Management and Budget. He was calling for a series of charity concerts called Gov-Aid to provide supplemental funds for poor downtrodden government workers.

I was literally throwing things around the shop. Callers were furious. About halfway through I realized it was April 1.

David Newman is greatly missed.

I caught a bit of Dennis Prager on the radio while traveling last week and was reminded of David Newman.

Between him and Mark Scott, Detroit was a powerhouse of talk radio talent.

I once heard Newman verbally destroy a guest who was espousing some envirowhacko Green New Deal type nonsense.

The low IQ greenie had no idea he was being pilloried so badly.

Years ago NPR also ran an April 1st story about how the Boston Celtics had decided that they were going to adopt the Old World pronunciation, and from that point forward would be referred to, in speech, as the Keltics, with the hard "C".

They had historians and linguists and sports figures lined up for interviews and reactions---(almost) everyone was p.o.'d, except those in on the gag.

Serves to remind one that there was a brief period when NPR wasn't the morose, moribund hater of all things Murican.

But that's government, and its associated poisons.

Back when it was somewhat possible to listen to NPR, they had an April Fool’s skit where the Starbucks was breaking ground for a coffee pipeline to run from Seattle to NYC. Well done!

Once I had to host a dinner of a large crowed of retired folks at an RV Park and The food was set out and steaming, the prayer was done. I said, ‘before we eat, I would like to take a few minutes and introduce you all to a wonderful business opportunity called Amway.’ Could have heard a pin drop.

My personal favorite was adding an autocorrect entry in Word to a co-workers app. Every time he signed a document he created it showed up as Matt ‘the dork” Jackson.

He noticed about 2 months later after countless memos had gone out. I still laugh thinking about it.

How about the time Coke announced “New” Coke. Oh, and when Bill Clinton said “I never had sexual relations with that woman, Ms. Lewinsky.

Hence, reinforcing his new moniker. LMAO here! Well done.

“Mount Doom prank today would send you to jail with massive fines.”

The guy DID get in LOTS of trouble...fined and had to pay for the clean up.

When I’m back in the states I really enjoy Dennis Prager. He’s a lot like David Newman.
