We’ve got a toll bridge just completed on I-65 in Louisville. There are no longer toll booths at all. Either you prepay or they send you a bill. It’s $2 if you prepay and $4 if you pay after. It’s so computerized that it costs them very little to charge you now. It’s a cash cow ;)
I avoid it at all costs, if only out of principle. I remember when they took the tool booths off the 520 floating bridge in Seattle because it was paid for. Can you imagine, in your wildest dreams, modern politicians doing that?
Georgia eliminated their one tool booth not long ago. Congestion was terrible just so they could get $0.25 per car.
That transitioned to installing automatic toll lanes (which I approve of). Your choice is either lots of lanes for free (and congested during rush hour), or pay whatever rate uses supply-and-demand to keep that one lane moving >= posted speed.
Yep, the tech has now surpassed E Z Pass. Here in NY the sensors are such that even slowing down is no longer necessary. If you have EZ Pass the sensor picks it up. If not multiple cameras recors your passing and a bill is sent to you. And now a few states are looking into chipped license plates which can be read by sensors anywhere, invluding PD vehicles. Big Brother is growing bigger.
Say Kentuckie , why would yall need to come on Indiana Side anyhow?
I don’t go to Looieville unless I havta see a doctor or something.
An yeah screw that toll bridge.
Besides the fact that it is a cash cow, it is riddled with technical errors and plenty of people get monstrous bills that don’t even apply to their cars.
I know of people getting bills from the state for cars that they do not own. It’s quite nauseating.
