Dissenter creates a free speech comment section for any URL on the web. Users can access comment threads on a URL by searching for the link on Dissenters web app at dissenter.com, explained Gab founder Andrew Torba. Alternatively, if users install the free and open-source Dissenter browser extension, users can see comments being made on any URL they navigate to displayed in a sidebar in their browser.
Dissenter.com thus extends Gabs reach, and its free speech platform, across the entire internet. Anyone with a Gab.com account can access Dissenter, and utilize it to express themselves on any content on the internet in any way they see fit, as long as their chosen form of expression is legal in the United States, Torba continued, adding that Dissenter has become a necessary tool due to rampant corporate censorship of ordinary internet users, whether that takes the form of YouTube demonetizing millions of videos and removing comment sections, Facebook and Instagram banning British activist Tommy Robinson for his political opinions, or Netflix banning comedy shows at the behest of Saudi princes.

I have the extension for Firefox. I would use it more but for some reason it is insisting on using my real name rather than a screen name.
Hmmm ... how does it know your real name ... Mr. John Smith? ... LOL ...
All I want to do is shitpost with my pepe the frog avatar friends but Jack at Twatter has decided I’m a bad guy, so I’m not allowed to play on his service anymore. This extension is exactly what I need.
I’m not sure. I signed up on Gab using my name, a screen name and my email. Now it wants to use my real name and it won’t let me change it.
Jim Robinson and John Robinson, what are the conceivable upsides and downsides to this app in relation to FR?
Let's say you are an FR user, and you don't want it and don't install it. Could others out there who have it be discussing or even outraged about something you posted and be bandying your screenname about without your knowledge?
Yeah, sure they could ... which is a good reason to have it ... just to be aware.
That’s the thing about a ‘really’ open and free speech plug-in ... people can talk about you, too ... but that’s to be expected.
I see ... then I would just sign up again, under a different name and use that other one. That would be an easy way around it.
For later
It seems to me that there was something similar to this ... being able to comment on any other website, as an ‘add-on’ to your browser. I think it was about ten or fifteen years ago. I’m not sure what happened to it. From what I remember, it did the same thing as this one.
It really isn't.
I'm not at all opposed to the idea but the way it's being pitched I'd be surprised to see many different opinions.
The Dissenter folks need to add a meme generator.
That’s exactly what happened to me.
And their platform is too graphic heavy. I’ve yet to figure out how to use it.
I’m probably going to cancel my account.
You mean like being on FR? LOL
Does this make for an echo-chamber ghetto?
I tried that a couple of times. Longest period w/o being banned was maybe two days. We aren’t steeped in Kool-aid and it shows rather quickly, I guess.
I’ve had it a few weeks. Participation level is so low, it’s unusual to find a page out of all the millions out there that someone has commented on using Dissenter.
But, it’s early. Things should pick up as critical mass is reached.
Now that you mention it...
Wow. You posted all bold and centered, so it must be very important. Sadly, I did not find that to be the case.
Thank you for noting posting in all-caps, I suppose.
