Several Indiana elementary school teachers are claiming that they were left with welts, bruises, and abrasions after an active shooter training drill in January — during which they were allegedly shot at repeatedly with plastic pellets without warning.
Two anonymous teachers in Monticello told IndyStar that for the training, teachers were asked by local law enforcement to kneel down against a classroom wall, before being shot across their backs with airsoft guns.
“They told us, ‘This is what happens if you just cower and do nothing,’” one of the teachers said. “They shot all of us across our backs. I was hit four times. It hurt so bad.”
On Wednesday, the Indiana State Teachers Association called for educator and student safety to be addressed in active shooter drills at schools, tweeting that it had heard from members of the association who were injured during a recent training.

I’ve been shot with these. I still have a scar where one found a very small opening in my protective gear. I was bleeding profusely. If someone shot me with one of these without my knowledge or consent, they’d be on the ground.

What are our expectation for teachers if we arm them? If shots are heard in a hallway outside a classroom, are armed teachers expected to engage the shooter or should they stay with the class to help defend the students? If they stay with the students are they cowering?
Dad was a marine. Dad told me never point a gun at anything you didn’t care to destroy. The lessons started with my first daisyBB Gun. Then I went off down the creek with a similarly armed buddy to hunt various small fauna. Ran across a couple of kids from the same summer efficiency resort. They were likewise armed. They shot first.
All training didn’t completely go out the window. It appears there were ground rules. Don’t aim above the waste.
I got some nasty welts and blood blisters. It was wrong…but it was war of sorts. Kids war.
These pantywaists need a little sting to wake up to reality.

Honest to God, I think these morons would tell an active shooter if they don’t stop, the TEACHERS UNION will SUE them!!
I believe the schools that arm their staff consider it to be a defensive option.
Obviously, the situation will dictate the response, but I don’t believe the thoughts are for the armed teacher to abandon his class to seek out the shooter.

Their backs were turned. A little welt and some hurt pride, maybe they’ll remember if the real thing ever comes along.
While the value of the training my be questionable, whether or not they “volunteered” is irrelevant. A school shooter will not ask, “OK, all those willing to get shot, line up over here.”
i wonder if the teachers fought back, would they be charged with assaulting a police officer, because i would have thumped the mother sucker... and taken the pellet hits... even paintballs would not have prevented me from thwarting the punk...
after i wrestled the “gun” from him i would empty the clip and then beat him over the head with it.
the “shooter” could have just said, “lie down, you are all now dead because you chose to not fight.”
but the welts bring it home.
