Yesterday I measured my blood glucose when I was experiencing ravenous thirst. I would drink a quart of water, then on the last gulp, experience an intense thirst. I knew something was wrong.
I measured on the meter and it said "HIGH, OVER 600 mg/dL". It was too high for the meter.
I took 40 units of long-acting insulin and 50 units of a sliding-scale immediate-acting insulin, and in 4 hours I was at 460 mg/dL b/g. Based on how insulin is processed in my body, I extrapolate that at one point I was at 1,100 mg/dL b/g.
I felt death close by me.
I am so concerned about a thug or a government killing me, but the reality is I will die from disease. All my guns won't protect me from diabetes.
Oh - and youll be in my prayers, of course!
:-)
Diabetic in this house, too. Take control tests besides the Libre. We found the two results to be quite, shall we say, “differing.”
Did you have a tap installed to produce maple syrup?
(Get better, mon, cut down on the stuff that’s killing you)
Are you doing anything else to control your blood sugar?
*snort*!
Your post reminded me of the sentiment:
I want to go peacfully and quiet in my sleep like my grandfather, not screaming with bug eyed terror like all the passengers in his car!
After a cursory view I have bookmarked......looks excellent. Thank you for posting.
A lot of people I used to argue post-, mid-, pre-trib rapture with are now dead.
i.e. you’re right. We get wrapped around the axle about stuff that, truth be told, doesn’t really affect us, and our real life sneaks in and makes a real difference, and sometimes not in the good way.
Me too. Got me off insulin completely. I was up to 360 IU's a day. Diabetes was tough but insulin was killing me.
You really have to have your priorities right, Lazamataz. Now get to it.
Finish that post, and reply to everyone who posted to you. Then go to the doctor. (only kidding! Go to the doctor now!)
I use 70/30 Walmart generic insulin, I recommend that if your dr is willing. Dehydration as you e seen will raise your blood sugar. Cheap meter or a bad draw can raise it high too. When I get a weird reading like this I always run another after washing my hands and letting them air drying then.
Last thing. You hit a perfect storm which involves food, dehydration. Skipped last shot.
My bad food that drive me be high are red seedless grapes and raisins.
When I get out of whack Ill go back to measuring my bs 4 even 5 times a day, Make sure Im not eating or drinking carelessly. After a week or so of this and keeping my bs in order it becomes a lot easier to manage all sorts of problems. Drugs are absorbed better, insulin become more effective
Laz, I would have hit you until you went to the emergency room.
Some humor on a very serous day.
Stay safe and healthy, Laz!
Good grief, man. I hope youre paying your guardian angel overtime! Youre an institution here, and many here need to be institutionalized.
Seriously, prayers up here. God bless and keep you.
I wish you well, Laz!
What was your last A1C?
It should be 6.8 or below.
Are you following a low-glucose diet, and avoiding alcohol? That is what can preserve your life.
I went into a diabetic coma in April 1996 and spent 2 months in hospital but by the Grace of God and Dr. Harvey, I can type this today. Hang in ther Laz.
It drops as soon as the weather warms up and I can get out in the sun. I don't trust hypertension drugs. I think it drops to about 155/100 after I sit still a few minutes.
Laz, my friend, go see your doctor. Immediately! Please.
